I chose Downtown and I would expect that Downtown means I would be able to walk to the primary Downtown and this location was not close to Downtown.

Positives: New facility and very clean.

Negatives: It was classified as Downtown and the location was not near or even walking distance to Downtown.

The staff was quick and attentive when I arrived. My room request was for two double beds, and they had no problem assigning me a double room. The rooms were clean and updated, and the beds had nice linens. I would have liked a mini-fridge, but I called ahead to see if the rooms had them, and they did not.

Positives: The staff gave excellent service and the rooms were well appointed.

Negatives: The hotel was very close to the highway but I wished it were walking distance to downtown.

Great hotel. Probably star rated too low. It should be at least a 3.5 - 4 star level. Convenient location to access Madison downtown and the university area. Clean, friendly, and has many amenities that other hotels do not have. Nice bar and restaurant.

Positives: Great Hotel value!

Negatives: Somewhat isolated from other establishments.

I had several $50 holds on my card and although they never went through, I was unable to use it the entire 6 days I was there. Didn't notice this happening until day 4. Housekeeping was very stingy with shampoo and conditioner...I try not to travel with liquids, so this was frustrating. There were rarely enough towels by the pool and it took a long time, and asking the front desk multiple times, to get any towels. Otherwise, it was clean and comfortable. I've stayed here many times and this was the first time I had the towel, housekeeping, or charges issue.

Positives: The location near the bike path is awesome as I was there to train for IM Wisconsin.

Negatives: Stingy with the towels, shampoo and conditioner. Several $50 holds, not just one for incidentals.

Upon entering our room, there was apparently someone that had smoked in the room. Surprising for a smoke-free hotel. However, the hotel let us check in very early, so that was a huge bonus. They fixed the smoke smell as well, so that it wasn't really noticeable upon returning to the hotel. The hotel seemed business friendly, has easy parking, and good swimming pools.

Positives: Easy parking, clean, good amenities, reasonable distance to Downtown.

Negatives: Our room had smoke smell when we entered, but was soon cleaned.

Bathroom was different, the sink was outside of the main bathroom, in the bathroom there was a large counter top was nice since the sink area was small. But you could not shower if you did not close the bathroom door, the door opened up against the tub so there was not enough room

Positives: Location front desk personnel was very friendly and helpful.

Negatives: Bathroom needed some updating, wall paper and tub caulking, also did not like how bathroom door opened.

Everything was very clean and comfortable, and the staff was friendly. No complaints at all about the actual hotel!

Positives: It was clean and the bed was very comfortable.

Negatives: It was not "downtown" as my selection indicated it should be. We had to use our rental car for everything.

Great hotel. However, the front desk staff was very rude at check-in. Don't check-in early or you will receive a room that is far superior to what you booked.

Positives: The room was great.

Negatives: The front desk staff.

If every hotel I've ever stayed in was like this, I would travel more often.

Positives: Clean, comfortable, quiet, pleasant!

Negatives: Nothing!

2 miles from downtown.

Positives: Friendly staff, and quiet.

Negatives: 2 miles from the downtown, where I was working.

For what we paid the room was fine. It was a standard room with some fairly recent upgrades (granite in bathroom, the ubiquitous white comforter.) I will give them points as they also included a blanket. So many places make you choose between only a sheet or the big comforter. Turned out it didn't matter as our air conditioner wasn't very good. It was very loud (can't sleep loud) so I raised the temp to get it to run less, but then was warm and didn't sleep well, (thus didn't use comforter or blanket) If I could get the same price I would probably stay again, but to pay there asking price for a room where I can't sleep well wouldn't happen.

Positives: The price was good. The room was clean and the beds were fine.

Negatives: Air-conditioner was very loud and seemed to be inefficient. Took forever to cool room.

GREAT! Clean!

Positives: Parking available, close to highway and downtown area, had a clean pool, offered wi-fi, had a nice room set-up. CLEAN!

Negatives: The whirlpool was kinda gross-looking.

This is absolutely not a downtown hotel. It would be at least a 20 minute walk to downtown. Calling it 3.5 stars is a stretch.

Positives: Good workout area, common areas.

Negatives: Crowded poorly laid out room.

Lovely property with cheerful knowledgeable and helpful staff. I felt unrushed, at home, and tended to whether bustling or quiet. Exceptionally tidy and private. Thanks for a delightful restful escape.

Positives: Lovely plush pillows and bedding.

Negatives: No sidewalk area in front of the hotel.

Positives: The beds were comfortable.

Negatives: Coffee bar closed before noon Sunday morning.

OK location close to downtown but not walkable. Rooms are nice and lobby is very modern. The front desk is friendly and the cleaners are nice but overall they need to work on hiring more service oriented people for the bar and restaurant.

Positives: Nice location and a nice lobby.

Negatives: The restaurant staff/ breakfast buffet was not well staffed by either people resulting in no plates/food or service.

Reviewer: Not provided on Mon 25 Apr 2011 rated 5 out of 10.

Nice hotel, kid friendly, but the noise from the party ruined the stay for me and they couldn't refund our money.
Positives: Good food and great beds.

Negatives: I was kept up almost all night by parties in the room next door despite calling the desk and having security go up several times.

This hotel is as expected for a mid-level Sheraton. The staff was very nice. They switched our room when it was found that someone had smoked in it previous to us. They gave directions and recommendations on dining and entertainment in the area. The hotel has all of the usual and expected amenities. The cleaning staff should do a better job in the pool/spa area. There were lots of cobwebs in the corners, hair globs in the floor drain, and some ants by the hot tub. Also, my roommate found that the chair in our room had a lot of crumbs and debris and filth under the cushion, so she left the cushion upright. The maid didn't vacuum it or clean the chair just put the cushion back down.

Positives: Front desk staff was friendly, accommodating, and helpful.

Negatives: Area around the hot tub/pool area was dirty. Housekeeping did not clean up an obvious area in the room.

Sheraton Madison is undergoing renovations and it seems they've been in this state for a long while! Nevertheless it is a decent place to stay and hopefully when done this hotel will live up to its potential. Overall a good value hotel with a very nice pool and hot tub area. Proximity to bike trails and downtown is a real bonus.

Positives: Location is great, right along bike trails and convenient to downtown.

Negatives: Seemingly renovated but rough around the edges.

Beautiful. Staff was accommodating to our late arrival and request for two beds rather than
one. IT WAS QUIET!

Positives: Luxurious bed linens, clean and updated.

Negatives: Nothing was bad.

I did not think this hotel would meet a 3+ hotel rating. It was pretty ugly, and the staff were completely unhelpful.

Positives: Free internet and free parking.

Negatives: Bad smell, unhelpful staff.

Negatives: Not within walking distance to downtown -- or anything else.

This was a nice hotel. Parts of it were dated and small given the 3.5 star rating. The food was the highlight I was very surprised by the quality. Room service was very good and prompt. The floor around the swimming pool was very dirty.

Positives: The food was very good. I was surprised!

Negatives: Bathrooms were small and old.

Reviewer: Not provided on Tue 20 Apr 2010 rated 8 out of 10.

Clean enough, nice rooms, nice public spaces, overall a good experience.

Positives: Free parking, nice beds.

Negatives: High winds clanged the flag pole hardware. Very loud. 3rd floor hallway was outdated and drab.

Nice rooms and friendly staff.

Positives: Friendly staff.

Negatives: Location.

Nice hotel with clean, comfortable, quiet rooms and a nice pool area, which our children enjoyed. Our only complaint was with the way we were treated by the front-desk staff. First, we were given keys to a room that was already occupied! Front desk staff then gave us keys to another room, but the keys did not work, so we had to go back to the front desk a third time.
Positives: Great location and comfortable quiet rooms.

Negatives: Front desk was not friendly.

Reviewer: Not provided on Wed 03 Feb 2010 rated 5 out of 10.

I asked for two queen beds and got two standard beds. Unfortunately I did not realize it until we were somewhat settled in the room. We went to the pool at 10:45 pm and found it locked. I saw no signage indicating closing time. I called the desk and was told it closed at 10:30 pm. I would like to suggest that the pool remain open to adults until midnight.

Positives: Attractive lobby.

Negatives: There was an unusual smell in the lobby area (musty).

Reviewer: Not provided on Tue 12 Jan 2010 rated 9 out of 10.

Very good. Extremely good staff. Easy access.

Positives: Very convenient.

Negatives: Bathroom was just a shade dirty, small mold spot on ceiling.

Reviewer: Not provided on Mon 04 Jan 2010 rated 8 out of 10.

The double beds were comfortable and large enough to sleep two and the TV was very nice. The one oddity was that the decor of the hallways and some of the craftsmanship in the room (a few corners of the bathroom and most of the ceiling corners were filled with caulk, bathroom itself looked older than the rest of the room) gave the feel that the Sheraton bought an older hotel and just fixed up the rooms and the main public areas and left the hallways and some of the room details out.

Positives: Quiet comfortable room, courteous staff, no hassles.

Negatives: Some craftsmanship and aesthetic issues.
