Outside of the parking, this hotel was awesome. My room was unavailable at check-in time, but the hotel staff put me in an executive suite. I've stayed in a lot of hotels across the country and the hotel staff is my top five.
Positives: The hotel staff was very friendly.
Negatives: To charge $7 to park yourself was ridiculous.

The staff was very friendly and helpful at the hotel. They knew the area very well and gave great directions and recommendations. They were also very knowledgeable about the hotels history.
Positives: The history of the hotel.
Negatives: Have to leave.

I was excited to stay in the Hotel Roanoke (HR) but, it failed to meet expectations. I spent two weeks in the HR on business and was very disappointed. It has a nice lobby and an inviting exterior but, that's where the plus sides end. These were the problems I had: They lost my reservation: I booked two weeks in advance and called ahead to confirm my reservation twice. When I showed up to check in they lost my reservation and I had to go to another hotel for the first night. Under construction: I had to work a few night shifts so I slept during the day. They were hanging drywall next door so I had to have my room moved and they failed to notify me before hand. It is noisy: My second room was on the bottom floor and whenever somebody would leave the door right next to my room would slam shut. It sounded like I was sleeping in a bowling ally at all hours of the night. They charge $12.00 a day to get on the internet. Parking is awful: you pay $13.00 or so a day for parking. Bad showers: they have poor water pressure and it takes a long time to get the temperature so it is not freezing cold or scalding hot. TV is annoying: it always starts up on the buy something channel at a high volume so you have to hear there ads and they want to charge you something outrageous for it. The HR relies on its reputation of being the oldest hotel in the city and its exterior looks to draw people in. If you are just staying over night the HR and you get a good room it might work for you. However for a hotel that preached quality they are far from it.
Positives: The Gym.
Negatives: Noise and accommodation.

This was my second visit to the Hotel Roanoke. The service and facilities are what drives the price because the accommodations are nothing special.
Positives: Convenient with excellent facilities and service.
Negatives: Rooms were nothing special - rather sparse.

We have stayed at this hotel many times in our life and were very pleased with the facility, however, the doorman had on shorts and no socks and the staff in the dining room for brunch had on baggy jeans and the service was terrible. Food was great but the way the staff was dressed was inappropriate for the hotel Roanoke.
Positives: Hotel checks in was great.
Negatives: Jeans and shorts are inappropriate for hotel staff.

This hotel is a magnificent historical landmark located in a beautiful city. We felt completely safe and comfortable walking downtown during the late evening hours. The downtown is easily accessed from a skywalk over the railroad tracks. It is inspiring to be part of history and to stay and dine in a place where u.s. Presidents and celebrities have done the same. We particularly enjoyed the eclectic blend of the guests ranging from casually dressed travelers to those dressed in black tie and evening gowns attending events in the ballrooms. The seta sweet dreams mattress and down pillows made for a great sleep. I did notice some of the wallpaper near the vintage window panes coming loose. However, the far wing of the floor we stayed on was being renovated.
Positives: The blend of historic ambiance with modern touches. The hotel is beautiful and the conference center is one of the best.
Negatives: The kids brought along a play station, but the TV needed a converter from the hotel for $25.

Great old hotel - you get a warm cookie upon check-in. When we stayed, they were (and still may be) renovating the main dining room so breakfast (buffet style) was served in the "pine room" -- a tiny room with poorly organized and inefficient service. Otherwise, a comfortable room and good bed and linens.
Positives: Good checking service.
Negatives: Poor breakfast service.

The place to stay in Roanoke. Luxury accommodations located within walking distance of all downtown amenities and restaurants. Beautifully decorated and appointed guest rooms, excellent for business or leisure travelers.
Positives: Great location, historic building, great beds, quick room service, very nice bar, fast car valet service.
Negatives: No dislikes!

The history of this grand hotel and its present day restoration and maintenance are superb. It's proximity to the O. Winston Link museum, Virginia Transportation Museum, and related infrastructure are superior. Quality of service is without peer. Fine dining is rather elevated and may not be accessible by all guests, however, although the cuisine is certainly 4-5 star. This is a grand hotel.
Positives: Architecture, history, amenities, location, access.
Negatives: No criticism.
