Established in 1728, the venerable Red Fox Inn and Tavern stands at the center crossroads of Middleburg, Virginia, a historic village that lies in the shadow of the Blue Ridge and Bull Run mountains in a valley steeped in the lore of both the Revolutionary and the Civil Wars. The original fieldstone structure is on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register.

The Red Fox Inn features inviting hotel rooms carefully furnished in an 18th-century manner and an intimate restaurant that serves contemporary American cuisine with southern country flair. The Inn has four private dining rooms ideal for private parties, weddings, rehearsal dinners and meeting groups.

The property also features a large garden terrace and two courtyard gardens ideally suited for wedding ceremonies and receptions. Whatever the occasion, our catering department will assist you in customizing our property to best suit your event needs.

While staying with us, one may visit nearby battlefields and monuments, tour local wineries, attend local steeplechases and horse shows, see a meet of foxhounds, browse Middleburg's many fine boutiques, antique shops and galleries, explore the Shenandoah Valley or simply take a drive in the country past land-grant estates and antebellum houses.

Casual lunches and elegant candlelight dinners await you in the Red Fox Inn's cozy dining rooms which feature original stone fireplaces and hand-hewn ceiling beams over thick fieldstone walls.

Our culinary team prepares seasonal menus which feature contemporary American cuisine with southern country flair. The Inn's wine list features a vast selection of domestic, imported, and local vintages while the beer list offers bottled American craft beers and imported favorites.

The Red Fox Inn complex features three separate buildings with overnight accommodations: The Red Fox Inn (our main building), The Stray Fox Inn (accessed by a private walkway from the Red Fox Inn) and The Night Fox (located directly behind the Red Fox Inn off of the Garden Terrace).For over two-and-a half centuries, The Red Fox Inn has maintained a commitment to providing our guests with good food, romantic accommodations, and efficient service. Thick cotton bathrobes, bedside sweets, the Washington Post and our Hunt Country Breakfast, are some of the extras that make an overnight visit at this romantic 18th-century Country Inn so special. All hotel rooms are centrally air-conditioned, have direct dial telephones with individual voice-mail capabilities, color cable television, and free wireless internet access. All of our hotel rooms are non-smoking.

Location details / directions

From Washington, D.C., Maryland, or Virginia suburbs:
495 to 66 West, exit at Route 50 West, go 26 miles west to Middleburg. The Inn is on the northeast corner of the stoplight in the center of town.

From Frederick, Maryland and points North:
Route 15 South, by-pass Leesburg and continue south to Gilbert's Corner (intersection of Routes 15 and 50). At Gilbert's Corner, go west 6 miles on Route 50 to Middleburg. The Inn is on the northeast corner of the stoplight in the center of town.

From Winchester, Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley:
Route 81; exit at Winchester onto Route 50 East. Go 30 miles east to Middleburg. The Inn is on the northeast corner of the stoplight in the center of town.
