Check-in was fast and easy upon arrival. All was ready and the valet was quick also. Our floor was labeled a non-smoking floor, but there was a strong cigarette smell in hallway. Our room did not have smell however. After entering the room, we noticed a streak of brown liquid in the tub that was clearly draining from the ceiling. After calling the front desk, they sent a tech who cleared it out but not for long. It came back later worse than before. There was also long hairs stuck to the side of the shower walls. We were disappointed there was no pool but then again, did not check when choosing hotel. The room itself was nice and clear and the beds and bedding very comfortable. The staff was all great; from the desk, bartenders, servers, valet. All in all it was okay and we would consider staying again. I did however, let the clerks know when checking out that they may want to hold out on putting someone in that particular room until they fixed their little drain issue
Positives: The total set up and presentation of the hotel was very nice; and they had warm cookies.
Negatives: Hallways smelled like smoke; shower walls had hair all over; constant drip of brownish liquid into our tub from ceiling; no pool.

Friendly staff! Garbage was not emptied, could not enter room due to poor lighting (had to use cell phone light to find light switch which was at the desk – no light at the door!)
Positives: Location.
Negatives: Entry to room was very poorly lit.

Overall the Double Tree is excellent. The rooms were spacious and elegant and the staff was friendly and helpful.
Positives: The staff was very friendly.
Negatives: The hotel did not have parking other than valet.

The room thermostat only went up to 75, which kept the room at 74, which sounds okay, but it was a cold week in Houston and the large windows cooled the room down enough that I was always cold. Front desk was unable to help with a heater but offered to send maintenance up (why?).
Positives: The cookie.
Negatives: Cold room.

Good downtown location. Nice room, but bad mattress and loud noise early in the morning from outside.

Negatives: Bad mattress and loud early morning noise from outside.

This is a nice hotel! Location ideal for many nearby attractions. Hotel generally exceeded my expectations. The only parking available is valet parking, which I feel was too expensive, especially since I was a guest of the hotel.
Positives: Location.
Negatives: The only negative were drain in tub was clogged and carpet in room was badly stained and looked filthy.

Very beautiful and comfortable. Love the spacious lobby and the giant circle mirrow there. Very comfortable beds. Clean/beautiful room/bathroom. Had more than enough towels for us during our one night stay. Nice TV. Had a digital clock/mp3 player I think, but I didn't use it this time.
Positives: Clean (no bed bugs). Most comfortable bed I've slept in in a while. Beautiful bathroom. Lovely decor in the room and lobby/bar. Modern.
Negatives: The ATM was down the first time I checked, and the next morning someone was stuck in the elevator and two firetrucks showed up. Just FYI.

I was very late checking in. All the front desk clerks new who I was before arriving and kept each other informed. I was very impressed by the hotel quality and comfort. I hope next time Ii am in Houston I can get a similar rate in this hotel. It was defenitely a steal!
Positives: Staff was extremely helpful.
Negatives: Nothing. Everything was excellent.

We used to stay here every time we went to Houston but never again. The staff range from indifferent to hostile. For example, our television was not working in the bedroom, we reported it to the front desk. The clerk typed a few letters on his computer and advised that it showed nothing was wrong and then stared at us, as if that was the end of it. Needless to say the next day when we finally got a technician to come to the room he was surprised to find it was not working. He left to check on it and never returned.
Positives: Location.
Negatives: Staff is unfriendly, arrogant and unhelpful.

Everything was great except the heat in our room did not work - we didn't really need the heat except the last day and night so didn't bother asking to move rooms.
Positives: Overall - excellent hotel experience.
Negatives: The heat did not work in our room and it got cold-they sent someone to fix it but it never worked.

Our stay at the Double Tree Downtown Houston was phenomenal! The food was excellent and attention to detail and customer service was beyond our expectations! The room was very spacious and clean.
Positives: I loved all the extra attention to detail such as the wam cookie upon check in and spacious room with lots of great amenities.
Negatives: Valet service was not totally on the same page.

The downtown Houston Doubletree, is one of the best hotels with great rooms located in the heart of downtown. Excellent for families and business travelers.
Positives: I like the cleanliness, the location and the room had a wonderful view.
Negatives: They had run out of the delicious free cookies they provide when a guest check-in.

I liked this place except for the food. Though the food lacked this stay it was affordable. The corn chowder was great as was the breakfast buffet. The room service was small in food portions and the food was overcooked at the restaurant. The salad I got in my room was beautiful to look at but it was bitter. I have had bitter cucumbers before but not bitter lettuce ad this lettuce was bitter. Sorry to concentrate on the food so much but in most places the food is one of the only things you like though it costs a fortune, in this case that was just the opposite. It is the only thing I can complain about. I would definitely stay here again!
Positives: Housekeeping was great very clean attractive place.
Negatives: The food. I ate supper down stairs and it was over cooked, I didn't comment it was late. I ordered in and I got a bitter salad the lettuce was all.

Our room was not very clean. Most importantly, we were to have a non-smoking room and even though our room was labeled as non-smoking, it was obvious that wasn't the case. The whole room, including linens, reeked of smoke. The in-room dining was fine and affordable. The staff was friendly and helpful. Will probably not stay in this hotel again, nor refer to friends and family.
Positives: Dine-in room items were good and affordable.
Negatives: Cleanliness wasn't great.

Great location. Very friendly staff. Beds are very comfortable. Love the lobby and bar area. Would welcome another stay at this hotel.
Positives: Nice lobby and bar area.
Negatives: Our flow had an odd smell/stale smell. Not offensive, just odd.

Nice property, friendly and efficient staff. Bar and restaurant on premises although I didn't check out either. Be aware 10.00 per day for internet and 25.00 for parking.
Positives: Relatively convenient location central to the city.
Negatives: Charges for parking.

The place is very comfortable, nice looking, and friendly service. Really enjoyed my stay. The bed was so comfortable, and the corner room felt luxurious.
Positives: They gave us a corner room, and the bed was amazingly comfortable.
Negatives: Cleaning lady knocked on our door very early in the morning.

The hotel itself leaves nothing to complain about. There is construction on a parking garage across the street, but inside is all luxury and comfort. The room was immaculate, well appointed (the thermostat was a bit testy). We took the shuttle down to the Aquarium (5 blocks away) and kept being told different times. When we called for a return service in the evening, we waited 15 minutes, called again, were not able to get any approximate time of arrival, so we walked back. We were curious about buying a tin of their cookies (you get a coupon with your arrival cookie) and the front desk attendant had no clue - said they only had individual cookies at the desk and you had to go to the restaurant for a whole tin. Oh well. While the rooms and towels and everything were all great and above expectations, the service seemed lacking in focus, and the doors let all noise from the hallways in.
Positives: Free shuttle was a great amenity and beds were wonderful.
Negatives: Service for shuttle however was lacking and getting quick responses from staff was always a chore.
Reviewer: Not provided on Wed 23 Jul 2008 rated 5 out of 10.
The valet and shuttle drivers were accommodating. Did not receive two double beds as requested. Did not receive coffee when called desk twice after I noticed it wasn't in the room. Front desk claimed they would deliver requested item twice but never did.
Positives: Good shuttle service.
Negatives: Poor customer service.

I was very satisfied with my stay at this hotel. The staff was very friendly from the valet, to front desk and bartender. The decor was very updated with a retro feel. They have cookies at night which I partook in daily. On the downside, if you don't know Houston well, it may be difficult to access. And there is no self parking so you have to use valet. The positives for my stay on both those issues were, the valet were very prompt in retrieving cars, and getting into and out of the hotel using W. Dallas street was very convenient for me. I would stay here again without question.
Positives: Very clean, updated, and friendly.
Negatives: No wet area in the fitness center.

I enjoyed my one night stay at the DoubleTree Hotel. The warm cookie was great since I had been on the road for several hours and just wanted a quiet nap.
Positives: Very quiet, clean, and food was great.
Negatives: I will never get a hotel room by the elevators again.

The hotel was great the only thing that was a surprise was the charge for parking 23.00 during the week and 12.00 on the weekends.
Positives: The rooms were attractive comfortable.
Negatives: The parking charge was 23.00 during the week and 12.00 on the weekend we were there thur and Fri. we did not anticipate 23.00 for parking.

Friendly staff, very nice room. I got a lot of value for the money.
Positives: Nice interior design.
Negatives: A little out of the way of my favorite downtown destinations.
