Nelson's Nantahala Hideaway is a campsite / RV park located in Topton.

Nelson’s Nantahala Hideaway is nestled in the heart of the Nantahala forest at Topton, NC. Fidely Nelson settled our family here in the late 1800′s and we invite you to experience true Southern Appalachian hospitality at our campground and cabins surrounded by hiking, trout fishing, whitewater rafting, canoeing, kayaking, bicycling, horseback riding and more. After an exciting stay in the Nantahala gorge… enjoy rustic living and spend a relaxing evening around your own private campfire. Walk in the footsteps of the great Cherokee Chiefs and discover “what Fidely did” in the foothills of the Great Smokey Mountains.

Additional details

When the campground was built, the quality trees were left to flourish. Now, Nelson’s Hideaway has been well landscaped. Tree cover thickens as the campground rises. A thick carpet of grass forms the campground understory. Water spigots are spread throughout the campground. The centrally located bathhouse is simply the finest I’ve ever seen this side of a fancy hotel, much less a campground. Divided by gender, each attractive section contains three hot showers and flush toilets inside a rustic, wood exterior. You can wash your dirty duds at the laundry facility, located here as well. If you don’t feel like pitching your tent, use one of the Adirondack-style, open-air shelters at the beginning of the loop. They have padded bunks and a small porch to enjoy the cool mountain breezes. The shelters have a picnic table beside them, too. In addition, active campers are more likely to be found here, with all the hiking, canoeing, and kayaking opportunities. An assortment of mountain biking trails threads the national forestland nearby, which nearly envelopes the campground. Adjacent to the campground is a cool, clear fishing pond.
