I would recommend it because of location and it was in price range of other hotels. Nice shops attached to hotel. Staff helpful. Restaurant fine but outside seating.
Positives: Closeness to the Plaza and shops. Parking although you had to pay for it. Good Concierge.
Negatives: My toilet was dirty when I arrived., bathrooms very small, dark gloomy lobby.

This place is not just historic, it's old and tired. During the numerous festival events that take place in the square across the street it is very difficult to get to because of traffic and street closings, and it becomes a public utility and restroom in the mold of Grand Central Station in New York City - and that's not good. Some on the staff were very nice and some of them - working at the front desk.
Positives: Price for parking.
Negatives: Just about everything else.

I've wanted to stay at this historic hotel forever. The room exceeded my expectations while not large, it was very comfortable, with unique and historic touches (like original honeycomb tile in the bathroom, extra deep tub) it seemed more like a bed, breakfast than hotel, the room service was fast, food fresh and hot. The room service, restaurant prices were below what I expected to pay, the food while unimaginative, was tasty and plentiful.
Positives: Comfortable, homey, clean and perfect location.
Negatives: Public spaces and restaurant being remodeled, room service menu too limited.

When we arrived in the room we found it to be very cramped. There were too many furniture pieces. We ordered room service from the hotel restaurant. An hour later we called room service because we had not received our food. They had misplaced the ticket. Twenty minutes later they finally brought us our food, but it was all wrong.
Positives: The only thing I liked about this hotel was it's location. It was in walking distance to many shops.
Negatives: Poor service and very cramped room! Too much furniture!

My wife and I spent our 10th anniversary here. Had a room on the Terraza level at a reasonable rate. Rooms well appointed and quiet on the Terraza. Can't speak for the rest of the hotel. We had an unpleasant event re: cleanliness on arrival but Managerial staff was immediately on it and very generous with compensated nights and small amenities. The rest of staff was courteous and attentive but the front desk personnel really need to be reviewed by manager. Polite but indifferently dressed, too casual in the manner of address, and would actually continue to talk on their cells with friends while dealing with us. Food was uniformly excellent from room service and the downstairs restaurant. There is an authentic French bakery located on the ground floor thats beyond good. However, the continental breakfast offered on the Terraza level was as common and per functionary as the one at a Ramada Inn. For the money paid it could be much better. Overall, a great time and we intend to return. Santa Fe is expensive though so reconsider if you can't relax about the money. A great hotel for romantic couple getaways.
Positives: Marvelously located. /wonderful bakery located in lobby. Managers very attentive.
Negatives: Front desk staff could look and act a lot more professional. Parking should be free at these rates.

While La Fonda has a century or so of history it is lacking in charm other than its location on Santa fe's pretty plaza. Staff are lukewarm and the hotel itself feels unclean. Meeting equipment was mediocre (sound system etc) Dining room staff are pleasant but the front desk is sullen. Rooms are quaint but not in a good way, with sagging beds, thin walls and dim hallways throughout. The roof top bar very unsophisticated service and facilities and attitude. Would recommend against this property to any friends.
Positives: Concierge was helpful and location very pleasant and central.
Negatives: Beds are dreadful and old and property has not been kept in shape . dark. dreary. bad technical infrastructure for meetings.
