Stayed at Alexs cabin in Akers Ferry Canoe Rental- and owned and operated by Jasons Place Campground also, as these two are the same ownership. Our first day after going into the cabin to view the place, we went into town to buy groceries and came back two hours later to find another family with four big dogs in the cabin. This family had showered and laid in the beds already. When we went to the staff, they just shrugged it off and said "Well, sometimes these things happen". They tried to place us in Joshs Cabin, which had a 1/2 inch of water on the floor from a ceiling leak and reeked of mold and mildew. They than proceeded to take us back to our original cabin and made the existing family get out. We than entered a dirty cabin and tried to just start new from that point. The cabin was filled with cockraoches and mice and their was a large brown recluse spider on the bed frame the first night we slept there. The screens are ripped out, and you wake to mice poop everywhere in the morning along with a few chewed up holes in your food from overnight. No effort was taken from the staff to offer a refund, nor even mention an apology. These cabins and the campground is so disgusting, no money is being put into them and you will recieve no refund if you are unhappy with the circumstances you will find. We made sure that when we visited the town that we let everyone we met in town, just how bad these rentals are. Many of them have heard similiar stories from other tourists like ourselves. I plan to contact the tourism bureau of Missouri also regarding the poor conditions we found.

Positives: The only pro I could suggest is the location as you are very close to the current river and can go right into the river with your canoes nearly 1 mile away.

I would come back only if there were new owners who made it a nice campground. These owners obviously don't have the money to invest into it or don't care to make it a nice campground.

Positives: This has the potential to be a beautiful campground if the Owners would put money into or if the State Park Service would buy it. It needs a lot of tender loving care and that is putting it mildly.

Negatives: Owners don't get too excited about fixing things or accomodating the public. Bathroom showers were a rip off... by the time you got your quarter to go in the slot you ran out of quarters trying to get warm water out of the shower. The owners didn't bother getting chemicals for the pool or cleaning it or opening it until one of our parties had to head home even though we made & paid for our reservations months in advance and the campground wasn't mowed. There were no padded sites and the sites were not shaded as described on the web site. Our electric sites were on a big open pasture in the hot sun - where are all those shady trees pictured on the web site??? I never did see that lighted volleyball court they advertise on their website. Basically the website did a snow job on us! We had 3 of the campground's dogs getting into our stuff and they were full of ticks, flees and worms and who knows what else! The cabins had very small water heaters and hot tubs on the decks which didn't work.
