From the moment the bellhop took our bags from the cab to when we checked out, the staff was so helpful and friendly. Our room was lovely, spacious, and offered a fantastic view of the Merchandise Mart, the Chicago river, and the gorgeous city of Chicago. We enjoyed dinner one night at the Cityscape Lounge. Our service was very good, as were our drinks, and dinner was enjoyable with the amazing city view. We visit Chicago at least twice a year and this hotel was one of the very best we've stayed in.
Positives: The location was top-notch. We were steps away form restaurants, shopping, sightseeing and even cooking classes!
Negatives: Can't really think of a thing-

Getting into the hotel was tricky, lobby on the 15th floor unusual, but once we figured it all out was easy. Staff was friendly and professional.
Positives: The views of the city were nice, the double beds were very comfortable, everything was very clean.
Negatives: A

Reminded me of a penitentiary - 6 square floors surrounding a courtyard/lobby; yellow wallpaper, yellow doors, white railing/Bannister's; no other decor, no pictures, no greenery; very difficult to locate elevator. Must climb numerous stairs from hotel parking lot to get to hotel; take elevator to 15th floor to reach the lobby then take a different set of elevators to get to room! Very small door openings in room; Only one elevator working at a time.
Positives: Nothing.
Negatives: Awful location; awful convenience; uncomfortable lumpy mattress; small pillows; smaller soaps; broken lamp; awful coffee.

Would recommend to anyone traveling in Chicago. It was clean and nicely updated. The hotel staff went out of their way to help in any way possible. Had breakfast plan - the buffet was worth the extra cost. Hotel was above a mall and transport system. Very convenient.
Positives: The hotel staff were great! Great location near mass transit. Room was spacious and clean.
Negatives: Parking was expensive

Had a nice time. Have stayed at this hotel before. Convenient but hoped closer to Michigan. Still walkable. We enjoyed the pool, and the bar is a gorgeous view with expensive drinks but not bad for a couple just to see the view and visit with people. Parking was $32 per night. We had a view of the pool and not the city, but that happens anywhere. The hotel was nice and comfy, just didn't like the long walk to get to elevator, then up to lobby, then around the hotel to get room elevator.
Positives: Nice and comfortable.
Negatives: A

If you are going to this Hotel better pay in cash, do not use your credit card, front desk staff is not really kind, specially noticing that after my stay I have been charged twice for the same stay, I did call the hotel to clarify the situation and I had very, very poor response and attention, I been waiting (on hold) on the line for somebody to answer to my call for more than 15 minutes, at the end the manager on duty answered saying she can't do anything for me. This is not the kind of answer you are expecting from a manager specially after they charge you twice. Apart from this the service at the restaurant, check in and the rooms was fairly good, the hotel is also good and the views are nice if you do have a room with view to the river.
Positives: Views to the river are nice. Restaurant and cleaning room staff are very kind.
Negatives: Charged me twice for the same stay, you have to go in to the 15th. floor on top of the Chicago Sun Times Building to get to the Hotel.

Very nice hotel, excellent for attending Chicago Merch Mart--the Mart owns part of the hotel and there is a bridge between the two.
Positives: The views were fantastic.
Negatives: A

Hotel is nice. You have to take two elevators to get to your room but this really isn't a hassle at all. The internet is free which is still rare these days, especially at the more expensive hotels downtown. Parking is way too expensive considering the location. But that is probably why it is expensive since there are not a lot of lots close by. Park elsewhere and take the train or cab. Other than that, it is a Holiday Inn and everything you expect from a quality Holiday Inn. Hotel is not huge since it is about 5 floors on top of the Sun Times building. This also keeps the lines short at the front desk.
Positives: Indoor connection to Merchandise Mart. From the second floor you can get to the L without going outside.
Negatives: Parking is extremely high, something like $47 a day.

The hotel was in an almost perfect location. The rooms were nothing spectacular but the bed was very comfortable and the view was amazing. I would recommend this hotel to friends and family!
Positives: The view was amazing and the location excellent.
Negatives: The bar closed very early.

It works well for the location.
Positives: Well run.
Negatives: Not easy to get in and out.

The bed was extremely uncomfortable, we got roomed next to an employee room and elevator, got rudely awoken at 6 am each morning with loud noises, doors slamming from the employee room. Why would you put a guest room next to an employee room?
Positives: The view we had was nice.
Negatives: Very hard uncomfortable bed, not greatest location.

Overall, this hotel is very clean and easily accessible to nearby attractions. My blow dryer literally caught on fire and smoked. Although the hotel operator did not respond quickly to the word "fire," the maintenance man did when he discovered there was no exaggeration!
Positives: The hotel was overall very clean.
Negatives: The staff was not as friendly as I would expect.

The staff is excellent. We arrived earlier then expected and they allowed us to check in at no extra cost. Rooms were attractive and very clean. Priceline.com made staying at this hotel very affordable. We would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Chicago Loop area.
Positives: Excellant Staff.
Negatives: You had to get on 1 elevator to get to lobby and then walk to another elevator to go up to your room.

Overall, the hotel was great. Wish it was closer to Michigan Ave, but it was nice being on the river. Great hotel overall.
Positives: It was right on the river and clean.
Negatives: Lobby was on 15th floor.

The hotel was in a good location for Downtown Chicago and felt very safe. The hotel staff was not very helpful at all and was not family friendly.
Positives: Decent location.
Negatives: Very unhelpful staff.

The staff, over the phone were very rude. At the hotel they seemed more friendly. Parking was outrageous, $34 p/day and difficult to get in and out.
Positives: Location.
Negatives: Parking costs.

Good quality hotel in a good location.
Positives: Beautiful view of the Chicago river.

Nice lobby. Extremely cold pool. Window faced a pillar so there was essentially no window. VERY inconvenient to get to. You have to park, then walk down two long hallways to go up two escalators, to walk through an art institute lobby, then up an elevator to check in, to go up an elevator to the room.
Positives: Very attractive.
Negatives: Extremely inconvenient to get to.
Reviewer: Not provided on Mon 09 Aug 2010 rated 10 out of 10.
Room was comfortable and clean.
Positives: Wonderful view looking East. Chicago river and skyline.
Negatives: Parking was difficult. Signage was poor and far from hotel.

I had called the hotel directly after booking the room with Priceline to let them know I was traveling with my 65-year-old father and would need a room with two beds and was told that wouldn't be a problem. When we arrived they gave us a room with one King and told us that all the doubles were booked and that they didn't even have a second room to sell us. They did; however, bring us a roll-away bed at no charge which was actually like a full size twin so it worked out in the end, I just wish they hadn't made me think the room request was all set when it wasn't. We had a room that overlooked the city - not sure how the rooms overlooking the courtyard/pool would compare. I was a bit worried because prior reviews stated that the walls were thin and you could hear everything, that was either not the case or we had quiet neighbors because we didn't have any problems at all. Overall, I would recommend this hotel.
Positives: Location was great - convenient to the El and subway.
Negatives: The hallways were very muggy.

Not very family friendly. No refrigerator. The only sink in the room is located inside the bathroom, so only one person can get ready at a time. Our view was of a cement wall. I was told if I want a view I needed to pay $20 more per night. Good exercise and pool area.
Positives: Good exercise and pool area.
Negatives: My view was of a cement wall. Was told to get a view I would have to pay more.

The staff was helpful and answered a few questions of mine very well. They were also very prompt in storing my luggage both before my check-in and after my checkout. My only negative experience was with the hotel bar/cafe. Their website is either not updated or else the bar staff is not informed of specials advertised on the site. Drink specials were on the calendar for one night, and, after I had ordered and commented to the bartender about the great specials, he told me that they were for the previous night. I ended up paying double what I had expected for the drink.
Positives: The pool was nice and the restaurant had a good selection reasonably priced.
Negatives: The adjacent building to the nearest train stop closes late at night.

Positives: Great location!
Negatives: Parking was very expensive.

This hotel staff was horrible! Would NEVER stay at another Holiday Inn ever. Then they charge 34.00 a night for parking right at the Marriott they charge 35.00 and they have valet!!
Positives: The views.
Negatives: The rooms and hotel staff.

Nice, comfortable, and felt upscale.
Positives: Beds were very comfortable and the view was amazing!
Negatives: Staff was only somewhat helpful. We had two problems and they did not show any concern.

I cannot imagine anyone paying full price for this room. It was very small and very inconvenient to get to. I cannot imagine how we would have gotten out of the place. We had to take two sets of elevators to get to the rooms. Our view was the inside of the hotel walls. We could not even see the sky!
Positives: The price I paid through Priceline.
Negatives: The view I got. The difficulty getting to our room, small room.

Roomy and a nice view on the river side.
Positives: Love the parking, lake front and was beautiful. Full and easy access to your car.
Negatives: The decor is a bit dated.

I was surprised of the quality, stylish, clean and modern, good staff, many weddings and other events: on the one hand funny and good for people-watching, on the other a bit loud! I will recommend the hotel.
Positives: Very friendly and nice lobby, staff friendly and helpful, good location.
Negatives: Doors very loud when closing.

We checked in and were given a smoking room, which we do not smoke. My husband called down and asked if we could have a non smoking room. They said no. Our room was old and outdated and also was above the ballroom, which would not have been a problem except that they had a DJ every night till midnight, which was very loud and we are not teenagers anymore. Then every night like clock work at 4 am the room next door would come in drunk and screaming till about 5:30 am. We called to complain but it did not do much good. Overall it was just not a very good experience.
Positives: The dunkin donuts close to the hotel.
Negatives: Just about everything.

The location is a little far from Navy Pier - but still located in a good area. We felt very safe and the view of the river from the hotel is excellent. The front desk staff was less than impressive and the concierge was mostly away from his desk and then unhelpful when we could manage to locate him. Parking is a bit pricey - but still less than other hotels downtown. Rooms were nice and clean - no complaints. The hotel lobby is on the 15th floor - had to take two seperate elevators to our room.
Positives: The bellmen were excellent - very helpful and extremely friendly.
Negatives: The front desk staff was not impressive and the concierge was disappointing.
Reviewer: Not provided on Sun 09 Aug 2009 rated 8 out of 10.
They could only offer a smoking room which was very disappointing but they compensated by giving us tickets for free breakfast for two days.
Positives: Convenient location to train lines and downtown attractions.
Negatives: The only room available was smoking.

Unfriendly staff at check in.
Positives: Economical.
Negatives: Unfriendly staff.
