Experienced very poor service checking in, and were flatly lied to about available rooms.
Positives: Great location.
Negatives: Clerk tried to provide a room without a bed (roll away only)!

I would recommend this hotel to all visitors of Chicago.
Positives: Beautiful hotel & location; convenient to everything with comfortable quiet surroundings.
Negatives: Cost of 30 hours of parking.

If you are going to this hotel just go for the location. It is near Millennium park (advantage). The hotel rooms are very very small. They don't provide basic amenities like a coffee maker. The television sets are ols and archaic. I won't recommend this hotel if you are paying more that $100.
Positives: The location was great.
Negatives: The rooms are too small, its doesn't have anything else. At least should have a coffee maker.

The Hotel exceeded my expectations for the weekend. it is on a great location and very close to many attractions and public access. the room was small, but very comfortable. the price was great for this nice hotel. beautiful lobby.
Positives: the location was fantastic. the room small but very nice. customer service was great compared to all Chicago
Negatives: window facing other windows. however it was not a big deal.

The beds in the room were way too small for a couple who are accustomed to sleeping on a queen or king size bed. We slept in 2 separate beds! How romantic is that? The TV was very old school. The room was clean, bed comfortable, but not impressive for what you would expect for the Palmer House.
Positives: The lobby was gorgeous.
Negatives: Staff was not very helpful.
Reviewer: Not provided on Sat 06 Aug 2011 rated 5 out of 10.
Nice hotel, but for the star rating that it is everything cost extra. Ex-internet, fitness center, and parking.
Positives: It was centrally located.
Negatives: Nothing was free with your room.

The hotel if beautiful. I was surprised that certain amenities weren't available... Like a refrigerator. everything was available for a price. Parking is very expensive, but that if true for any hotel in Downtown Chicago.
Positives: The lobby is amazing.
Negatives: No refrigerator, TV not that impressive, and parking is expensive.

Nice hotel. Crappy room via Priceline. The "Priceline" room is teeny.. one full size bed.
Positives: It was nice minus our room.
Negatives: Our ridiculously crappy, small, and room.

My daughter will be attending Columbia College in the fall of 2011. The location of this hotel was convenient for us to visit the campus. We loved the rich history of the hotel. My mother was a museum director and she found that the namesake of the museum actually stayed at the Palmer House back in the early 1900's. Would definitely tell people to stay or at least stop by the hotel to see its beauty.
Positives: Absolutely beautiful hotel!! The staff was very helpful and the location was perfect for OUR trip.
Negatives: We were surprised we had a double bed. We thought it was a king or 2 doubles. Not clear on site.

Stunningly beautiful lobby, elegant and historic hotel. Because there are over 1600 rooms not all of them are as beautiful as the one we stayed in. The biggest downside is that they charge you for everything, and its very expensive, including a $10 charge to use the gym. If you traveling and you need to have internet/parking etc. it adds up very quickly even when you get a good deal.

Positives: The woman at the desk went out of her way to find us a really nice room as we were celebrating our first wedding anniversary.
Negatives: Put a $102 hold o your credit card upon check in!

The hotel experience was great overall. It is located right downtown, has a luxurious feel to it, and included an on-site Starbucks and fine-dining restaurant. The only downside to our stay was the waiting in line at the Registration Desk, which always seemed to be hectic, as well as with the Concierge. Also, the rooms were very comfortable but a bit on the small side. Other than that, great hotel! Very clean, very pretty. Definitely recommend it!
Positives: Perfect location.
Negatives: Rooms were a bit small.

The hotel was beautiful and the room delightful- However- I had phoned and specifically requested non-smoking and did not get it. Staff tried but could not accommodate the request our first night.
Positives: Great location, beautiful hotel.
Negatives: Did not honor my non-smoking room request- very disappointing.

Maybe if you stay on the executive level this hotel is a four star, but the regular rooms aren't even three star. You don't sleep in the lobby! Room was awkward and tiny. You wait a long time in line for everything. Only location is good. Will never stay there again. Makes me question pricelines ratings.
Positives: Location.
Negatives: Tiny room, very awkward. Amenities not up to par for a 4 star. Pool tiny.

This hotel is conveniently located near great shopping and Michigan Avenue, it is just 2 blocks from the Art Institute of Chicago. It is very comfortable and the beds are the best..the lobby is very elegant and warm at the same time it is exceptionally beautiful. If you love old world charm this is the hotel for you.
Positives: I loved the lobby perfect meeting place and drinks with friends.. also loved the brunch and food was very good.
Negatives: It was very noisy!!! the machine in the hall began in the evening at about 12 midnight and also neighbors too noisy. I had to call twice to complain.

The room had roll beds which were not comfortable at all, also the room become very small after those beds added in. One of the room was upgraded to the executive level which included continental breakfast which was nice, However the room I described above has a feeling of 1 start cheap hotel
Positives: I ordered two room, one upgrade to the executive level which included continental breakfast.
Negatives: The rooms we have been given.

Beautiful hotel with old-world charm! The lobby is breathtaking, the staff are all friendly and go out of their way to make sure your stay is enjoyable. The room was very neat and clean and the bed was VERY comfortable!

Amazing hotel, beautiful lobby, stayed in a king room (non-executive level). Very comfortable bed, but smaller than expected room with a very small bathroom. We were offered an upgrade to executive level but did not accept, too much to do in Downtown Chicago.
Positives: Amazing lobby and
Negatives: Smaller than expected room, and very small bathroom.

Negatives: Rooms were a little small.

The room was super tiny. The bathroom was super tiny, and the toilet didn't flush. The staff did nothing to fix the problem. Location was good and parking was easy. This was certainly not up to the standard of this star rating and certainly not worth the money, and I named my own price.
Positives: Good location. Parking was easy.
Negatives: Horrible room. Tiny, old bathroom that didn't work.

It was clean, had a firm, but soft mattress-comfy! room decor was not 4 star, more a 3 to a 3.5
Positives: Starbucks in lower-level and they were great about holding our bags.
Negatives: Slow elevators and the lobby was one floor up from street level.

The Palmer House is a beautiful historic downtown Chicago hotel and closer to the convention center than many downtown hotels. Eases the pain of getting to the remote convention center a little bit. I really liked the recent renovations completed at the hotel in both the meeting space and guest rooms. I would definitely come back again.
Positives: I have stayed at the Palmer House before and am pleased to see the room renovations. They were very nice.
Negatives: Always wish the Main Lobby/Registration is on the same level as the street. But nothing I can do about that.
Reviewer: Not provided on Wed 17 Nov 2010 rated 9 out of 10.
A very grand hotel, beautiful common areas, nice, but expensive (typical due location) bar + restaurant. The room, a king, was quite large for a older downtown hotel. The bath was clean, but very basic, room furnishings were clean and in good repair, but rather staid. If you're looking for something modern, hip, stick with a W or the Hard Rock, etc, this is old school.
Positives: Was near public transport and had very grand common spaces.
Negatives: Did not like paying for gym, or amenities usually free at most hotels.
Reviewer: Not provided on Tue 16 Nov 2010 rated 10 out of 10.
The Palmer House is an older and stately hotel. The lobby is like nothing I had every seen before. Excellent. The bed was comfy and I would definitely recommend this hotel to a friend.
Positives: It was very fancy.
Negatives: The room was on the small side.

Great place to stay if you get it on Priceline - very expensive otherwise.

Very elegant, clean hotel in heart of Downtown Chicago.
Positives: Very clean, nice decor and comfortable beds.
Negatives: Room was quite small. Also very loud, people yelling in hall.
Reviewer: Not provided on Fri 12 Nov 2010 rated 10 out of 10.
Great location. Friendly staff. Some rooms were very small; others were large. I had a great deal on Priceline, which made the small room acceptable, but it would have been too small for 2 people. The decor is antiqued, exceptional and beautiful!
Positives: GREAT location.
Negatives: The room was extremely small with only a double bed.
Reviewer: Not provided on Wed 10 Nov 2010 rated 8 out of 10.
The most comfortable beds ever! Great sheets, very clean bedding. No coffee pot in the room, not a fancy room, lacked some amenities, but good for the money we spent on Priceline. Unfortunately, the weekend we were there was an influx of some scruffy people and it didn't look like a very dignified old hotel.
Positives: The lobby lounge, the concierge service, the beds and bedding are incredible.
Negatives: The room was shabby, carpet was worn, elevators were small, no Internet service.
Reviewer: Not provided on Wed 10 Nov 2010 rated 8 out of 10.
Pleasant very helpful staff.
Positives: Beautiful historic hotel, public spaces were wonderful.
Negatives: Room needed updating - bed s/b Queen vs full.
Reviewer: Not provided on Fri 05 Nov 2010 rated 3 out of 10.
The lobby is impressive, but the room we stayed in was dreadful. Old, dark, weirdly decorated, not what you would expect from a Hilton. The location is convenient, but there are far better hotels nearby for this price.
Positives: The lobby is quite impressive, the location is very central.
Negatives: The room was the darkest, gloomiest, most old fashioned I've ever stayed in!

The Palmer House is a historic hotel conveniently located near State Street and Michigan Ave. shopping and the Art Institute. Its lobby is beautiful and the room was very tastefully decorated. Sorry to see that basic amenities such as in-room coffee and Internet access was either not available or very expensive.
Positives: It is a historic hotel, and very welcoming.
Negatives: Parking was expensive, repairs needed to the room (bathroom fixtures). There was no coffee in the room and they charged for Internet access.

The hotel is right off of one of the stops in the Loop. My husband and I enjoyed walking around. The hotel staff was good. The hotel restaurant we ate at had good food. The only problem for us was that the room we had (with a king size bed) however, was small and felt a little cramped.
Positives: Convenient location.
Negatives: The room we got was quite small and felt a little cramped.

There are too many hotels that let you use the gym for free and have free Internet, that adds $25.00 to price of hotel room---not worth it.

No way to consider this hotel ever again. Remodeled rooms with a full size bed, and tell you that room is for 2 people. This is terrible, I had to pay $9 more to get upgraded to a queen bed.
Positives: Lobby.
Negatives: Room and attitude of front desk people. They are the worst I have ever seen.

The hotel was elegantly appointed and the lobby was relaxing. Concierge services were being used by hotel guests and there was a line to speak to only one very polite gentleman on a Sunday afternoon. Self parking across the street in an office building. Would not recommend hotel for handicapped travelers. Ramps are not in front of hotel and directly across form parking garage. Hotel lobby on second level. Elevators to lobby are available from street level.

When I booked a 4 star hotel for very cheap, I was quite excited for my trip. Upon arrival, I discovered that I had to pay $36 for overnight parking plus $22 more if I wanted to valet it, tip everyone who pretty much even talked to me, pay another $35 for my girlfriend and I to use the gym and try to use internet that didn't even work. This hotel is all about some hidden fees. Their parking was $36 and was supposed to be in/out privileges until 5 pm the next day, but when I went to swipe out of the garage which was a block down the street, the card didn't even work and the lady in the parking office had to take ten minutes out of my already busy day to call over to the hotel and confirm that I had in fact paid for parking. The only things I really liked about the hotel were the nice rooms, the good location, and the helpful concierge. Other than that it was a pretty massive disappointment. We were going to request a late checkout, but then eventually noticed on a flyer they slide under your door that to check out between 11:01 and 1 pm is an extra $35.
Positives: Great location, great decor.
Negatives: Hidden charges out the Ying Yang.
