On registering at the front desk, the hostess was so hostile to us, that we wrote a letter to the manager and left it with the concierge. We gave our name and room number, yet never got any reply. We expected at least a phone call to our room, but got nothing. The memory of this reception is still with us.
Positives: Location next to the beach.
Negatives: Reception by hostess at front desk was hostile. Hot tub was too small.

Loved location, beach access, pool, restaurant. Didn't like haggling on upgrade room charge. They wanted additional $100 per night for a better room. We saw all three wings and it wasn't worth the asking price for upgrading. Beds were nice and comfortable.
Positives: Location , beach access is impressive, restaurant shells is excellent for breakfast.
Negatives: We were hoping for a reasonable upgrade, but it turned out to be a negotiation, after long exhausting travel I wasn't up for haggling on a price.

This hotel is badly in need of renovation. It is quite rundown especially the garden wing. We had three rooms and one smelled so musty, it was barely inhabitable. Many of the pools and much of the grounds are also in need of repair. Overall this property compares very badly with other resort level properties we have stayed in on Kauai.
Positives: Can only improve.
Negatives: Over priced and run down hotel in need of repair & renovation.

Helpful and friendly staff. They gave us a complimentary bottle of champagne for our honeymoon. The room was nice, but the surroundings were not up to par on the garden side. The building needed painting, new woodwork, new tile, and the garden pool was dirty. The ocean pool is small for a resort that size.
Positives: The staff was great and even offered us a complimentary bottle of champagne since it was our honeymoon.
Negatives: Ocean side nice, garden side needed A LOT of TLC.

Old rooms, at least the one we received. Lack of electrical outlets for PC - had to unplug the lamp to gain one outlet. A foot stool served as the chair for the
desk work
with no back to it so backaches soon developed.
Positives: Free outstanding buffet breakfast for 1 if you decline room service.
Negatives: Our room was as far from the ocean and the parking lot as you can possibly get.

Spent only 1 night here and wished we could stay longer. While in the pool watch out for children crossing in the multitudes to use the slide. The spa area could definitely use an upgrade. Oceanview rooms are worth the extra $.
Positives: Comfortable, clean, cozy, did not leave property until check out!
Negatives: Cost for in room dining was too expensive!

Our first trip to Hawaii, we island hopped, and saved Kauai for last. I got a good deal on Priceline for the Sheraton. We were back in the garden area, which was fine, it was very quiet. The rooms were large, well appointed, the staff was helpful, the grounds were gorgeous, and the pool and beach areas were great. Poipu public beach adjoins the property. The biggest negative we had was that our room smelled funny. I know, it's the islands, but none of our other hotels smelled weird, like a grapefruit rotted in there and they couldn't quite get the smell out. It wasn't terrible, but for an expensive resort, it was unexpected. Free parking is on the side of the resort, and the lagoon area buildings are set across the street from the oceanfront buildings, so you may have a bit of a walk to get around. Free lobby computers. The food, and every other little thing, is resort priced.
Positives: Big rooms and beautiful beach front.
Negatives: Our room smelled funny.

The Sheraton is beautiful and in a good location. Rooms are modern and spotless with nice facilities, including internet, refrigerator, and lanais. Staff is very friendly and accomodating. There is a lot of parking in different areas so there is not a long walk to your car. I did not eat at any of the restaurants. The beachfront and pool are very small, but the beach water looked calm for swimming, which is not always the case in Kauai and is a big plus for families. The gym was very small with only 2 of each cardio machine - I would expect more for such a large hotel.
Positives: Room very nice, nice location and
Negatives: Very small beach area and pool, large resort but gym only had 2 treadmills.

The beach has to be the main attraction. We had a garden view room. The rooms were clean, and the bed very comfortable. Rooms are small and a little walking distance to the beach. My wife and I could eat for half price at the breakfast buffet by passing on the daily room cleaning. The staff was very friendly, and offered us a free bottle of champagne for our anniversary.
Positives: Buffet breakfast, internet access, beach access.
Negatives: Small garden view rooms.

Beautiful! Great pools and amazing views. Expensive but worth it.
Positives: Breathtaking views.
Negatives: Felt like we always needed to tip everyone.

This hotel has a great location and a lot of great features like a fitness room and several restaurants with beautiful views. However, the restaurant food was average and totally overpriced. Tropical drinks were $9.50 here, but a max of $7 everywhere else. There's a lot of potential with the location and everything, but they just need to get their act together. Throughout the resort, little things like table umbrellas, walkway tiles, or bathroom sinks were slightly broken. It just seems like they don't really have an eye for detail. The location and the fact that we got a great deal made those little things pretty easy to overlook, but I would have been disappointed if I was one of the guests who stayed there for full price. The power went out 2 xs in one day -at 8:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. (the two times of day when people are likely getting ready). In the evening, we went down to the front desk to ask when they thought it would be turned back on and they took down our room number. This was a very nice surprise since we didn't have to turn into crazed lunatics to be compensated for the inconvenience.
Positives: The location was fabulous.
Negatives: Bathroom/ shower.

Easy to get around with lots of shortcuts.
Positives: Everything.
Negatives: Hard to eat if you get in late in the evening.

Great ocean views. In December it may always be very windy. The beach is good for boogie boarding, but unprotected so too strong to swim around. It is a timeshare and so they do attempt to get you involved. Rooms are great, and it is a long walk to some areas of the hotel. I enjoyed it but would not rave over it.
Positives: Mai Tai reception was fun.
Negatives: Desk staff was sometimes difficult.

The hotel was incredible and they made my husband and I feel like royalty. There were plenty of on promise activities (especially at night when everything is closed in Kauai) to entertain us. The room was very clean and had a beautiful garden view. The staff was a friendly and helpful as I have ever experienced. I would definitely return to this hotel over any other on Kauai and will recommend it to everyone I know.
Positives: It was a beautiful place and the service was some of the best I ever had.
Negatives: Nothing.

This hotel is great it is in a great location, it is clean and they really take care of you.
Positives: Everything!
Negatives: The daily fee and the price of food.

As long as you have not been exposed to the Hyatt Grand Regency, you will find this hotel acceptable. A street runs between the ocean front and garden view rooms, thereby dividing the "resort" in half. The resort fee includes a nice buffet breakfast each morning.
Positives: Was able to upgrade from a parking lot view to ocean front for $50!
Negatives: The grounds and facilities were no where near the quality of the Hyatt Grand Regency.

Sheraton Kauai was the prefect place to celebrate our 3 year wedding anniversary!
Positives: The location was convenient to all the activities and restaurants.
Negatives: Everything was exceptional!

Although No. 14 points out the deficiencies that I noticed, I would return to the Sheraton in Kauai. A great location for chartered activities.
Positives: View (ocean). Food (variety of restaurants). Staff. Pool. Convenience from airport.
Negatives: Inefficient dresser space for clothes. No drawer space in bathroom. Dangerous, slippery bathroom tiles.

The Sheraton location is very nice. The beach and ocean views are beautiful. The ocean front wings are much nicer than the garden wings in the back of the hotel. The rooms in garden wing are very small. The pools and restaurants need new furniture and updating. Overall, the hotel quality does not match the great location.
Positives: The hotel location is very nice. Beach and surrounding areas are beautiful.
Negatives: The hotel is very old and worn out. Despite the fact it is undergoing renovations, the public areas are old and in need of much work.

The price I paid did not include a mandatory $26/day amenities fee (free breakfast) that was added on to my bill. The rooms were dirty, mildew on the shower curtain and in the tile. The air conditioner was so noisy that we had to shut it off at night. The air conditioner cover was broken off. Elevator was broken in our section. You could hear other guests use the bathroom - loud enough to wake you up. Grounds were very nice and well maintained. Breakfast buffet was very good.
Positives: Ground - public spaces very nice. Breakfast buffet very good.
Negatives: Mildew in shower, curtain. Air conditioner very noisy. Rooms noisy.

We should stay there next year when it gets a remodel. I hope their prices don't increase too much.
Positives: Location
Negatives: Outdated, too pricey
