Definitely old property, but rooms slightly upgraded since last visit a year ago. Now a luau has replaced the old non-usable tennis courts, and provides free musical entertainment several nights per week. Lots of birds, which provide a pleasant sound instead of traffic. The price is right for anyone who doesn't want or need luxury, and would rather spend the $ on other things while on Maui.

Positives: Very large rooms, ample parking, spacious grounds and

Negatives: Maid service was mid-afternoon each day.

The hotel was more so like a cheap motel. The rooms were very dated. The bathroom even more so. Had we not prepaid for three nights we would have only stayed one. You would not want to spend any time lounging in your room.

Positives: Good shower pressure.

Negatives: Run down.

One elevator for all the buildings. Yellow, old bathroom counter. Grimy tile. Old school key locks. The room upstairs (it's 3 stories) made so much noise walking around in the morning I actually banged a chair on the ceiling.

Positives: Nothing.

Negatives: Try and cross the freeway to see the crummy beach front.

The grounds were beautiful, but the room we stayed in felt outdated and a bit dingy. The bed was very hard, and the bathroom needs new caulking. I was glad to have an AC unit in our room, even though it was quite noisy.

Positives: I liked the price, the grounds, and the location.

Negatives: I felt it was outdated and a bit dingy.

The hotel was older, but nice. Lots of open space and green grass. Beach wasn't the best; we went elsewhere for swimming, snorkeling and surfing. Not really convenient to restaurants, but sort of centrally located on the island in general as long as you have a rental car. It's nice for the price and probably nice for sort of a quiet romantic getaway; but nothing special if you want new, amenities or luxury.

Positives: Open space, green grass and trees.

Negatives: No restaurant and not much of a beach.

Room was old and outdated but clean. Definitely for the budget minded traveler. Staff was friendly, grounds were clean. Decent location, across the street from the beach, but what isn't in Kehei.

Positives: Across the street from the beach.

Negatives: Hotel room and pool area outdated, in desperate need of a facelift.

I enjoyed the fact that this was once a large 28 acre 1950's estate and it still had some of that feel. Too much of Maui is all elbow to elbow. The Maui Lu was Hawaii all the way, local style.

Positives: Old Hawaii ambiance on 28 spacious acres by the sea.

Negatives: Some stuff was broken, repairs were made quickly.

This hotel was perfect for my two young children and me. It had pretty much all that we needed plus a refrigerator. In addition, our room was in the building that is located right behind the lobby building so my laptop was able to receive the WiFi signal that is offered for free in the lobby. That was a great bonus. The pool was nice for my kids, but the water could have been cleaner. The pool is not suitable for non-swimmers as it does not have a large shallow area. It does, however, have a long first and second step where toddlers might be able to play in the water. There is lots of free parking and the parking lot is lighted very well. I was able to leave a kayak on my car at night with hardly any worry of theft because the only entrance/exit to the parking lot is past the lobby. Note for late sleepers: the hotel was undergoing renovation on one of its buildings and work started on weekdays at 7AM sharp. If that will be a problem for you, look elsewhere to stay.

Positives: Great location, lots of parking, quiet, best of all, cheap!

Negatives: Pool water was not really clean.

The surroundings had dust, dirt and cobwebs. The room had a peculiar smell. The carpet was so dusty. They said I need to pay $ extra per person as I had 4 people in the party and the room was only for 2.

Positives: Nothing.

Negatives: Dusty, dirty, smells. room and surroundings were very dirty.

The employees are really accommodating and pleasant. It is an Ok place to stay. The soda machines need to be filled up on a regular basis. There is an interest to fix up the premises and the exterior of the buildings, however, more need to be done. the next building over, looks abandoned and something has to be done about that quickly. Some parts of the right front facing the main road needs to be landscaped with cleaning and cutting away of the tall bushes and shrubs. My family would stay there again.

Positives: Was convenient for the purpose of this particular trip to Maui.

Negatives: It was a bit too pricey - a bit short of hosting a meal - a bottle of water is not acceptable.

This hotel is in a great location, near a lot of other hotels. One part of the Maui Lu is next to the beach and the other part is across the street.

Very quiet as the hotel is away from the main road unlike most hotels on the S. Kihei strip. It's showing signs of age and I wouldn't pay much of this room on the mainland but it was half the cost of other local hotels and so if you really just need a simple place to sleep in between beach activities it's perfect.

Positives: Very quiet as the hotel is away from the main road.

Negatives: A little bit old and sad looking.

It's bad when the pizza delivery guy said he was surprised the hotel was still open! This place was not nice at all, especially if you need to be romantic. Maui was not what I expected because of the hotel. It did not set the mood of I'm on a tropical island. I will never ever stay here ever again!

Positives: I did not like this hotel at all. I wish I choose a better room for my Honeymoon in Maui.

Negatives: Well to start, I requested a king size bed and I got two double beds instead. Great for a Honeymoon! Also the quality of the room was bad.

Location was great, grounds were fabulous but 2nd level balcony where we stayed was spongy and you felt like you might go through it in spots. Outside walls and doors dirty and needing paint. Inside room was a very generous size but carpets were dirty and walls and baseboards needed cleaned & painted and lamp shades were dirty and/or in disrepair.

Positives: The room was large.

Negatives: Carpet very dirty, needed paint and repairs, walls dirty.

Yes the rooms are a bit worn as are the overall buildings but when youre in Maui you typically don't spend a lot of time in your room anyway! If you like a firm bed you'll love theirs (too hard for me, ugh.). The staff was always nice and helpful too. I'd definitely recommend this to people on a budget!

Positives: The staff was really nice and the grounds were gorgeous.

Negatives: Beds were very hard! Rooms and facilities were a little worn and could use some TLC.

I asked or preferred A King Sized bed & wasn't too sure if it was available. But, the hotel accommodated us. There was a bellhop? While we were taking our bags out of our rental vehicle, he helped us to our room. We had 2 bags, our stroller & our car seat. That was something I wasn't used to. They also let us check in early! We arrived in Maui at around 7 am & we were dredging the fact the we needed to check in at 3. So I called early & they accommodated us again.

Positives: Great Location! Near beaches, family, &shopping.

Negatives: The Pool Closes Too Early ( 10 pm).
