Generally good except for some details in our room - ill fitting doors with missing or no trim gave it a cheap look which took away from our comfort to a degree.
Positives: Very friendly and helpful staff.
Negatives: Room looked cheap - ill fitting doors - no trims etc.

Our room faced the beautiful pond and bay. It was clean and convenient for budget travel. Staff were very friendly. The walls are quite thin and neighbor noise traveled, but overall we'd recommend - we even stayed at the sister location in Kona based on our good experience here.
Positives: Amazing koi pond.
Negatives: Thin walls - noise travels.

For the price the hotel was what we expected. We read the reviews for the place and they described it pretty well. The one thing that it seems they have updated is the parking, so we did not have a problem finding a space. Our room was a garden room so it was not near the pool and it was very quiet.
Positives: Location and price.
Negatives: It was a bit run down.

Okay place to stay for one night if you don't plan on being in the room. Ice bucket was a pint sized paper container. Security guard was sitting in lobby while car in parking lot was broken into. Had to pay for Internet. Very poor AT&T phone connection. Very noisy.
Positives: Fairly cheap.
Negatives: Felt unsafe. Car next to ours was broken into.

Centrally located, nice place to get away to relax.
Positives: Good location.
Negatives: No Internet in the rooms.

No elevator in the hotel, so make sure to stay on ground floor if traveling with kids in stroller. The pool, fish pool and common area are pretty, greek style, very nice and passionate staff. It would be nice if they can change the carpet, looks dirty.
Positives: Good location, nice staff, very helpful.
Negatives: Very old hotel, needs updates.

Generally very pleased with the room and would stay here again. Was very nice to be so close to the swimming pool, but didn't get to try it out.
Positives: Very pleased with ease to check-in; staffing friendly; room was fine.
Negatives: Building layout is out-dated; could use a ramp instead of stairs; pool hours too short.

An interesting place to explore Hilo from. It's clean, efficiently run and friendly. It can also be lively and noisy.
Positives: Friendly, local, Hawaiian owned and run.
Negatives: Turned out to be a popular and noisy week-end spot.

Honest and comfortable with good rates. It was a Hawaiian family owned and operated hotel and the kind of business I like to support.
Positives: The hotel had a "homey" feel and was family owned.
Negatives: Some of the other guests were noisy.

Negatives: Rooms crowded together.

Hotel is old but was clean. Beds were comfortable. Garden was very attractive.
Positives: Clean hotel and great friendly service.
Negatives: On the old side and could be more modernized, hard to carry heavy luggage up the stairs.

Usually stay at this hotel when in Hi lo. Great location from the family house and dining. Always a pleasant to stay here.
Positives: Price of room was well worth the stay, friendly staff.
Negatives: The check-out had no receipt for me, but needed my credit card for transaction?

We have a wonderful stay. The hotel staff was very accommodating and kind. Everything was very clean and the location was excellent - right on the water and walking distance (2 miles) to downtown. The restaurant was overpriced and the food was not delicious. There was no continental breakfast. The rooms were a little small. Everything was a little soggy from all the rain.
Positives: Wonderful staff in a great location with good, clean rooms and facilities in a tropical environment.
Negatives: Rooms were a little small, restaurant was overpriced, other guests were a little noisy.

It is very centrally located and a close drive to many attractions - downtown, Hilo Farmer's market, Coconut Island, volcano, waterfalls, etc. Although it is quite old, it was very clean, and there were no cockroaches which we were worried about before our arrival.
Positives: It was a great location - very close to downtown where we enjoyed black & white night, Hilo Farmer's market, Coconut Island.
Negatives: It is very old establishment. There were no elevators.

We stayed in the Hilo Seaside Hotel for one night prior to our departure out of the Hilo airport. The room was very clean, but I probably would not stay there for an extended amount of time. The room had 70's-style shag carpeting! We arrived on a Friday night, and there was very little nearby parking. I would recommend this hotel for a short stay near an airport.
Positives: Convenient (1 mile away) to airport.
Negatives: Parking on a Friday night was difficult.

Very friendly front desk as well as maintenance staff.
Positives: The steak at the restaurant was excellent.
Negatives: Steps.

Hotel is conveniently located near the airport and other tourist activity. Hotel staffs are very friendly. Hotel's parking arrangement is not satisfied. Good value for the price.
Positives: Location and friendly behavior of the hotel staffs.
Negatives: Parking arrangement and surrounding of the hotel.

I would stay here again in the future. We have stayed at sister hotels on neighbor islands and enjoy the Kamaiaina (local) atmosphere. Value for cost is very good. Rooms are clean and beds comfortable.
Positives: Located on Hilo Bay , has a good restaurant friendly.
Negatives: Packing suitcases up stairs to 2nd floor.

Older hotel, very simple rooms and no frills but clean and staff was helpful. Very near Banyan Drive and w/I walking distance to restaurants Ken's Pancakes, Harrington's and Coconut Grill. Parking tight so take all valuables out of car as you may end up across street (also patrolled by security; nice pool area but limited hours are 10 am - 6 pm; some rooms have view of ice pond out front and a limited view of Hilo Bay across street. Later check in (11:00 pm) was not a problem. Very close to airport which was convenient but could hear a lot of air traffic (helicopters) traveling in the sky. Overall, the hotel served its purpose which was to provide a simple place for us to stay for a night in Hilo prior to traveling to other areas of the island.
Positives: Friendly, helpful staff; late check in; allowed to store extra suitcase (w/dive gear) near office instead of dragging to room.
Negatives: No elevators, must "hop" suitcases up couple stairs, limited parking.

Price is right but noise factor of nearby roadway, other guests and airplanes at play. Rooms adequate but no coffee in either room or lobby for travelers!
Positives: Beautiful lobby and location near to airport. Restaurant attached.
Negatives: Noise from neighbors audible all night, from TV sets to yelling to 5 A.M. loud talking. Over flight path at one point.

The Seaside Hotel is old, but reasonably well maintained, as long as you don't look to carefully. Some of the rooms are newer, and perhaps a little better. It appears to be a place where locals from Hawaii, and senior tours come to --so it is less expensive than the others along Canyon Drive. It is not a place I would use as a vacation spot, but for work it is just fine.
Positives: Convenience of restaurant, close to downtown Hilo and University.
Negatives: The rooms are a little seedy-out of date, and loud Airport noise on occasion.
Reviewer: Not provided on Tue 16 May 2006 rated 9 out of 10.
Though "old", the hotel is well maintained, i.e. walls and ceilings were painted recently and the carpet, bathroom, etc. were thoroughly clean and everything was working.
Positives: While the property is "old", it's well maintained and thoroughly clean.
Negatives: The parking was a little short.

Friendly staff, good prices. Hotel is old and in need of some freshening or renovations. The number of guests with cars seems to create havoc in the area because of insufficient parking space, cars tend to take over some public space.
Positives: Reasonably priced, easy to get to, close to the airport.
Negatives: Old, outgrown its location, the surrounding area is overcrowded with guest's cars.
Reviewer: Not provided on Wed 08 Feb 2006 rated 4 out of 10.
Very unlike it is sister hotel in Kona, this one was very noisy and trashy.
Positives: Location.
Negatives: Very noisy and dated and dingy rooms.

Near the Hilo airport, not in the tourist area; older hotel; room and lobby tastefullly decorated. Noise level in guest quaters kept to a minimum. A very good value for the money in Hawaii. Room had very few electrical outlets.
Positives: Lobby design is guite interesting, restaurant excellant
Negatives: Lack of room amenities
