Hotel Palomar
San Francisco, California
Hotel Palomar is a hotel located in San Francisco.
The Hotel Palomar is a sophisticated artful retreat in the heart of downtown San Francisco. Hidden five floors above the city hustle and bustle and just steps away from ever-busy SOMA district, this Kimpton hotel is like a great painting waiting to be discovered by the discerning traveler. The style of this San Francisco luxury hotel is modern but not trendy, with playful touches throughout. The décor invites closer inspection that reveals artful details, such as the lobby's stunning parquet floors reminiscent of the geometric drawings of M.C. Escher. The atmosphere recalls Paris of the 1930s, where artists and intellectuals chatted at sidewalk cafes in an imaginative city full of creative energy, just like modern day San Francisco.
Local dining options close to Hotel Palomar include Seasons At The Four Seasons Hotel, Zazil Coastal Mexican Cuisine, Andale Mexican Restaurant, and Lark Creek Steak.

Very impressed with both hotel and location. Perfect for shopping and sightseeing. Comfortable beds. Quiet room (ask for an inside room). Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Would definitely stay here again.
Positives: Perfect location. Friendly staff. Great service.
Negatives: Expensive parking - but all hotels in area charge the same.

They have a lovely complimentary wine hour between 5 and 6. I would not recommend the restaurant, however as our particular waiter was pompous and to say the portions were small (3 bites) and expensive would be a complete understatement. The concierge was helpful regarding information about restaurants, etc. When they could not provide the two beds requested, they did give a $50 credit for the restaurant which considering the plate size and price was a laughable compensation. Next time I would stay either at the Intercontinental or Francis Drake.
Positives: Location.
Negatives: They provided an extra (very small) cot instead of the 2 beds that were booked. It made the room crowded and was not the quality bed expected.

Very nice hotel that was quiet but close to Union Square and public transportation.

Nice hotel in great location. This was formerly a run-down transient hotel that was refurbished. The staff was excellent and attentive. The hotel was not four-star.
Positives: Great location.
Negatives: Small rooms.

The Hotel Palomar in San Francisco was a very cute hotel. At first I was a bit nervous when I saw it was a smaller hotel but it met all my traveling needs. The hotel staff went beyond my expectations with customer service. I had told them it was a birthday trip and they sent chocolates and champagne to the room with a card. While in SF I did check out other hotels and I would still come back to this hotel.
Positives: The customer service was excellent and I would come back due to this.
Negatives: The only thing I didn't like is the location of the hotel, Old Navy is below the hotel but don't let this stop you from staying here.

Expensive for the services. 5 o'clock wine was nice yet the room to enjoy it in was small. Many near by hotels equal or better in cost ans services.
Positives: The room was clean the bed and pillows were good.
Negatives: Small, the fitness room was loud in our room.

Loved it! Will definitely stay there again.
Positives: Staff.
Negatives: Dog barking in another room.

This is an extremely pleasant property in a bustling business and retail neighborhood. It is a very classy, but no-frills operation -- just the ticket for a business trip or a brief leisure weekend in the city. Be wary of the daytime noise produced from the large store that sits beneath the hotel. At night, however, things quiet down, and we slept most peacefully!
Positives: Super convenient location, near shopping and BART station.
Negatives: The exterior noise coming from the Old Navy store beneath the hotel.

Nice hotel, stylish without being trendy and with service which exceeds many other boutique hotels. The only drawback is the restaurant which provided poor value in my opinion.
Positives: Great ambience, and good location.
Negatives: Restaurant is overpriced ($80 breakfast for two).

Overall - loved it!
Positives: Everything seemed clean, new, trendy, artistic.
Negatives: The room and bathroom were fairly small.

This was a very average hotel. View was of offices next door. $50 for parking at the hotel is outrageous. Nothing extra special at all here. Would not stay at this hotel again.
Positives: Nice flat screen TV.
Negatives: Charged $50 to park.

Great staff, rooms are very nice. Work out facility could be a little nicer, but was ok for our needs. Would highly recommend to others.
Positives: Very attractive, great location, quiet.
Negatives: One day did not clean up room.

Negatives: View.

Nice funky hotel just off Market Street on fourth. Great for Moscone Center Conventions. Cool rooms with clean designs. NY Times newspaper, wine tasting, and free coffee in the mornings. Attentive staff.
Positives: Cool decor. Very modern and clean furnishings. Comfy bed and high quality linens.
Negatives: Small room and common areas. Only two towels in the room, had to ask for more.

The interiors of the hotel are good but the lobby is very small. The rooms are very spacious and the fifth floor restaurant is really good. The staff is very friendly and it has the best location one can have in San Francisco.
Positives: Very good rooms with the best location in San Francisco.
Negatives: Lobby is very small, otherwise the hotel is pretty well done up.

Decor very hip and modern. Great location if you are using public transportation options.
Positives: Great location with great staff.
Negatives: Parking rates are inflated beyond reason.

Nice location. Friendly staff. Maybe a 3 1/2 star, but not a 4 star hotel.
Positives: Location.
Negatives: No coffee 3 times, when I went to the lobby, during 12 days.

Nice room amenities (though with dim bathroom lighting) and pleasant decor. Walls seem a little thin, the television could be heard in the next door room late and early. Helpful staff. Central to cable car line, arts, and good restaurants.
Positives: Excellent location.
Negatives: No place to comfortably sit to watch television or read.

The Hotel Palomar and Kempton Hotels in general have the best customer service I've experienced in a long time. They consistently have the best trained staff, far exceeding even the best five star hotels I've stayed at around the world. The hotel is well appointed; not luxurious but modern in style and very comfortable. I would highly suggest requesting an exterior room during your stay. Interior rooms don't have an attractive view. The restaurant and lounge are lovely and great for meeting friends and family. We stayed here with our two dogs in tow for one week and always looked forward to returning to the hotel after a long day of site seeing!
Positives: The staff excelled in customer service and the hotel was well appointed. The staff is far superior to many 5-star hotels I've stayed at.
Negatives: Getting in and out of this busy & popular location can be challenging.

Loved the interior of the king deluxe room my husband and I stayed in. The bed was more comfortable than my bed at home, which is not usual. The room was very quiet and I slept like a baby, which is also not usual. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Positives: Beds very comfy, room quiet, very plush w/nice amenities.
Negatives: Restaurant was very expensive.

Recommend this hotel for lovely, if small, rooms, good amenities, and a staff that always aims to please. The food and service that you get with room service is pretty subpart; the food was cold and was the wrong order the first time around. Other than that, it's a great place to stay.
Positives: Great service.
Negatives: Lousy room service.

We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to our friends.
Positives: Double windows, sound proofed, wonderful linens and blackout curtains.
Negatives: It was tricky finding taxis.

Having stayed at several of the large Name-brand 4 star hotels in so, I was worried about this selection. I was pleasantly surprised. I don't use much of the lobby facilities anyway, so it didn't matter. The staff was great and the room was very nice and quiet. It was a romantic weekend for my wife and me. We often travel with our 2 kids (daughter 17, son 12). This hotel would not have been a good venue for that type of stay. It was perfect for what we wanted to do. The price was higher than we usually have to pay, due to the summer tourist season. Being local to the bay area we usually stay in so off-season for a much lesser price. But, considering the market, timing, etc. It was excellent.
Positives: The quality of the facilities and friendliness of the staff.
Negatives: Parking in so is expensive.

The hotel is in a great location, and the lobby staff valet and Bellhop was extremely helpful and pleasant. The representative said it would not be a problem and that everything was all set. After we checked in and went to our room, we found a king bed. The hotel manager said they were sold out for the night and did not offer anything else to compensate for. They could have offered something for the inconvenience. I hardly got an apology. I ended up sleeping on the floor.
Positives: The hotel was very clean and seemed newly decorated. The staff was very professional.
Negatives: Our room was not what we thought we were getting.

Great hotel, will definitely return. Fantastic location, nice/clean/simple rooms and the NY Times on Sunday. We were pleasantly surprised by the value and level of service.
Positives: Great location and friendly/helpful staff. NY Times on Sunday morning.
Negatives: Need more at breakfast, coffee/tea in small cups was insufficient.
