Good place to stay for the price. Close enough to union station. Room was kinda small, but very clean. definitely has a San Francisco feel to it.

Positives: Great location, small and quaint. Friendly and helpful staff.

Negatives: One elevator.

This is really a charming little treasure. Staff was super friendly, rooms are clean and recently remodeled. You can walk to Union Square, at night there are several fun bars, hotels to visit. Valet parking at hotel, parking spaces are small, but it was nice to have my car close if needed. I left my phone charger in the room and the staff founded it and sent it back to me. We will definitely return to The hotel California!

Positives: Close parking, a warm welcome, clean charming rooms, close to fun night life and shopping.

Negatives: The parking garage is tiny and my brand new car was parked under a leaky pipe and dripped rusty water all over my windows.

Great location, 4 blocks from Union Square. Nice. Lean rooms, parking is $29 plus tax per night for hotels valet service so its pricey but its safe, we had an SUV full of stuff, wireless Internet is very weak.

Positives: Antique look.

Negatives: Parking and weak wireless Internet.

Good hotel, would come again. Soft beds, quaint 50's style rooms, hot strong showers, and friendly staff that helped me rent a town car so I could have definite drop off and pickup times to see a play. Vegetarian restaurant on site had good food, if pricey. But not a good hotel if you're disabled. I had a walker and the doors to the elevator slide open and then you have to maneuver and push a second door to get out, with limited space to do so. Shower had a handle to help you get in but no other grab bars for balancing while showering. No AC, must get very hot in September/October summer heat. Overall, though, great value for the price.

Positives: Soft beds & helpful staff.

Negatives: Elevator was a hardship for disabled.

I enjoyed my stay. San Francisco was our last stop on our trip and this hotel was the nicest we stayed in. It exceeded my expectations.I would stay here again, and I would recommend the hotel to family and friends.

Positives: I loved the room itself. The decor was fresh and new looking. The girl at the desk and the bellman were very pleasant and helpful.

Negatives: The room was small, but that was disclosed. It is an older building in San Francisco. Space is at a premium.

We took advantage of the valet parking with in and out privileges. Hotel staff were friendly and very responsive to our questions and needs. I would recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a decent place to stay without spending a fortune.

Positives: Loved the shot of tequila at check in and wine and cheese reception at night. Bed was comfortable and double paned windows kept out the street noise.

Negatives: Not enough TV channels for my taste.

Staff were friendly and helpful. We were able to check in about an hour early. Front desk also offers concierge service. Free wine and cheese each evening was okay for being free, but nothing spectacular. Our standard queen room was comfortable. The bed was awesome, and the linens were soft and clean.

Positives: Bed was super comfortable, and I'm picky about beds!

Negatives: Had to walk through the Tenderloin to get to some public transit stops.

Great location (close to Bart station and shopping), good atmosphere and decor, great room but small, overall great for the price.

Positives: Great location, great service, great room!

Negatives: Minor cosmetic tile issues in the bathroom!

Despite getting stuck in the elevator for a few minutes, everything was great. The checkout time was flexible. The room had character. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was convenient.

Positives: Nice California flavor.

Negatives: Got stuck in elevator for a few minutes.

The room was very nice and the staff was also very nice. The room was a bit small, but very personalized with paintings on the ceiling and a great wood floor. The only thing a little bad about the experience is that the area becomes a little bit sketchy at night. There are lots of people without homes roaming the streets. On the other hand, there are also lots of young people ready to party as well. Overall a good hotel.

Positives: The room was great and service was great.

Negatives: The location at night is a bit sketchy, lots of homeless.

Overall I was very pleased with my stay at Best Western Hotel California. The staff was great! The room was a bit small, but that was to be expected. I loved the way it was decorated and painted. I would totally come back and stay at this hotel!

Positives: Very unique and trendy. Friendly staff.

Negatives: The elevator was a bit old and slow to arrive at the floor.

Very cheap for San Francisco. You can only turn left out of the hotel. Something we learnt the hard way. The actual hotel is nice.

Positives: Nice decor. Wine and cheese every night was great.

Negatives: Location, far too close to the Tenderloin District with crack heads.

Nice hotel and a good value. Walking distance to Union Square. The staff was very friendly. You can have tequila shot when you get in if you wish and they have wine, cheese, and some fruit every afternoon. Definitely have history and even an older time elevator. I would stay here again.

Positives: Clean rooms, friendly staff. Wine and cheese every late afternoon.

Negatives: Right on the edge of how far you would want to walk to Union Square.

My stay at The Hotel California was, overall, a very good one. I had read many of the reviews and was prepared for downtown street noise by having ear plugs. Slept well. The room was small, however, comfortable for my needs. The staff was very friendly and helpful at all levels. Parking is off-site and a charge of $30.00 per night can be applied at your choice. Yet, the valet worked hard to be timely in getting my car to me. What must be remembered is that this is a small boutique style hotel, in a downtown location, in a busy city were land is a premium, hence the off-site parking.

Positives: Friendly and helpful staff.

Negatives: Outside street noise was considerable.

We were highly impressed with all of the staff, from the valet to the concierge, they all bent over backwards to be friendly and helpful. There was not a single thing that they weren't willing to help with, including finding antiseptic and a bandaid for a shaving incident! Their recommendations for local attractions was superb and we experience San Francisco in a very unique way.

Positives: The staff could not have been more accommodating. They went out of their way to ensure our stay was remarkable.

Negatives: In a hotel with no air conditioning we found the windows very hard to open.

This was a great hotel. It was a great location, and the staff was friendly. The room was clean and the bed was comfy. I like the feel of it, old but restored with comfortable decorations without losing the old feel of the building.

Positives: I like the feel of it and the decor; also very clean.

The hotel over all was good. I liked the free tequillia shots. But I feel that I paid for a deluxe room and was given a standard room. The water was brown, which totally grossed me out.

This hotel was such a nice surprise! The room was very attractive and the expensive bedding made such a difference. I loved the location and the complimentary wine, cheese and fruit everyday from 4-6 pm was great. I would definitely recommend it to others and would stay there again when in san Francisco.
