A severe disappointment. This hotel has three parts to it. Two towers and one area called the Lanai which is actually just a nice way of saying motel! They put me in the motel section of the hotel. This is a horribly sad excuse for a 4 star location. It had outdoor entrances. Seemed dangerous and had a view of the freeway and the airport tarmac. Don't be fooled this place is a dump and is definitely not in the area they claim to be. Upon bidding you always get to choose your "area." This hotel is clearly in the wrong section as it should be considered an airport hotel since it is a mere 2 minutes from the San Diego airport and a full 15 - 20 minutes away from downtown (which happens to be the "area" I chose when bidding).
Positives: Nothing.
Negatives: Inconvenient. Bad room. Poor service. Overpriced and under appointed.

Room was nice and also clean. The shuttle service to the airport (to use public transportation) was great. Never had to wait more than five minutes for a shuttle to the airport or from the airport back to the hotel.
Positives: Clean and service was good.
Negatives: Limited choice of restaurants available on site.

Overall, good hotel, they should tell you when you are booked which tower you are actually staying at so you can go to the right one the first time since they are not attached or even share a parking lot. Rooms and grounds were nice, clean, well kept. Not bad for the price. Great view of Coronado Island from the rooms.
Positives: Good location, nice amenities, good views, easy to navigate around.
Negatives: Way too expensive for parking, ridiculous, should be half price if you stay there. Free continental breakfast.

Hotel was nice and clean. Pretty marina view.
Positives: Located near freeways & places we were visiting.
Negatives: Parking gates didn't work with room key for duration of trip.

My husband and I travel to San Diego approx 3-4 times a year. This is the first time we got Harbor Island instead of downtown/Gaslamp. I was hoping the hotel would make up for our disappointment in not being downtown, but it was the worst 4 star I have ever stayed in. Room dreary, carpets in hall and room stained.
Positives: Small balcony with a view of the marina.
Negatives: Drab room, stained carpets, not 4star.

The hotel was beautiful and was conveniently located. My husband and I were there the night of the San Diego black out and they handled the disaster with grace and helped everyone. The only problem I have is that, since the entire city was blacked out and the hotel was running on a generator, we had limited food options for dinner. They told us there was a food line set up for hotel guests, they did not however tell us they were charging $20 a plate for cold cut sandwiches and pre made potato salad. That was a little disappointing.
Positives: The customer service was excellent.
Negatives: They were charging $20 a plate for cold cut sandwich buffet the night of the black out, no other food options available.

I will never stay at this hotel again. You have to pay for every little thing that you need. $22 for parking, 11.95 for Internet that hardly works, $19 for breakfast buffet..
Positives: Room Service.
Negatives: Parking fee, paid Internet connection was very slow.

The hotel is smaller than the Sheraton Marina and around the corner. There is a path along the Marina that connects the two hotels (3-4 minute walk. The hotel is clean, but has only one dining facility.
Positives: Easy in & out.
Negatives: Away from the actual Sheraton Hotel.

We had an excellent service. We were there during the San Diego blackout in September 2011, and the staff went out of their way to make things as comfortable as possible during the 10 or so hours the power was out. However, the noise from the airport across the street was very loud.
Positives: Love the marina area the hotel is situated on.
Negatives: It was right across the street from the airport and kind of noisy. You could hear the planes all night long. Also, the air conditioners were loud.

Nice and clean Hotel. Updated recently. Most Starwood properties are great.
Positives: Nice and clean hotel.
Negatives: Not near the Gaslamp district.

This hotel was on the marina and in a great location. We were minutes from major attractions, beaches, and downtown. The lobby was super clean and always had a floral smell which was nice. The room had a great view, but the bathroom was super small. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The one complaint I have was that the hotel charges $22 a day for self (not valet) parking
Positives: Location
Negatives: Having to pay $22 a day for parking! Hotels should not charge their guests for parking.

The hotel was fine, we were only staying for a night passing through so didn't really use the facilities, but the pools looked nice.
Positives: Good location, nice facilities.
Negatives: Parking fees.

wonderful trip--very pleased with room and service.
Positives: Great room, friendly staff.
Negatives: The parking charges.

Hotel was good but the room wasn't adequately cleaned before we arrived and we had an invasion of ants that wouldn't go away. Front desk offered a room change and a free breakfast...but when we went in to use the free breakfast were told we couldn't use it for the buffet and could only use if for the "continental" breakfast (cereal, fruit, etc). I found that really silly and they let us eat the buffet anyways.
Positives: Incredible View of the Ocean!
Negatives: We had ants invade our room during our stay.

Do not accept this hotel, it was awful and if they try to put you in the Lanai room, decline.
Positives: Nothing.
Negatives: It was crap, worst experience ever!

When I first got to the room(6/29/11), it was an adjoining room and the family next to me was very loud with a crying baby, and a number of young children. I called the desk and asked for a transfer to a different room. A very friendly woman, I believe her name was Sue, gladly moved me and was so accommodating and actually moved me to a better room. She even called a while later and asked how I liked my new room. She couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Her actions left a very positive feeling and I can honestly say, it makes me want to return to the Sheraton the next time I'm in San Diego. If more people in service positions were like her, travel would be much more pleasant!!
Positives: Very attractive facility..wish we could bring dog to the pool area.
Negatives: Wish we could pay less for parking.

The first evening we had to be moved from our room at 11:45 pm because the room filled with cigarette smoke from the neighboring room. The next morning we changed rooms again and discovered that although we were on the 11th floor there were two barking dogs in the room next to us. There was a $22 per night charge for parking; however, the second night we were there they had completely blocked off the parking lot close to our tower because they were expecting a large group for a meeting the next morning so we had to park a considerable distance from our rooms. The concierge did not seem to know the area at all and was unable to assist us at one point because their computer was down and she couldn't look up any information.
Positives: Easy access to attractions in the area. Located right on the bay, nice view. Cabana Bar was nice.
Negatives: Parking, concierge not knowledgeable about area.

Overall the hotel lived up to standards. It was clean, remodeled (except for the old picture tube TV), scenic. The airport noise was a bit of a bother as was the exorbitant price for parking. But the bed was comfortable and it was nice to have a balcony overlooking the marina.
Positives: Very scenic right next to the marina.
Negatives: Airport noise and distance from one tower to the next.

Nice and friendly staff make a brief stay enjoyable..
Positives: Convenient location.
Negatives: Charge for parking too much; taxi fares too much..

The Marina Towers were nice looking and the Lanai room was nice. Hated that parking was $22 and lot was crowded. Got room w/ 2 double beds, comfortable, but odd not Queen. Nice that they let us check in at 10 am. Everything on room service menu and phone calls really expensive, didn't call the desk to ask about wake up call, as found no instructions for call to front and feared cost of $2.50 for local call.
Positives: Patio overlooking the marina.
Negatives: We were put in the Lanai area, fine for good weather, wouldn't be good w/ rain.

There are 2 towers to this hotel.

Make sure that you show a Starwood card upon checking in. Make sure that you stay in the Marina Tower, and not the Bay tower. Insist, even if they put you in a Lanai room near the pool. Once there, enjoy the bay view and take a walk to one of many nearby restaurants.
Positives: Clean, quiet, cheap.
Negatives: Bait and switch.

Our room was so beautiful and overlooked the marina. There is a breakfast buffet for $10, but unfortunately aside from the omelets, most of it was cold.
Positives: Excellent location! Right on the water.
Negatives: Breakfast buffet was cold.

Would have thought it was a real deal if parking, Internet were free.
Positives: Clean, good water pressure, excellent harbor view and
Negatives: Parking was a hassle - the way they set up the lot.

I went to relax and the hotel was beautiful, and the room was very spacious. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The drawbacks were that the parking, as at most upscale hotels in San Diego, was outrageous. The restaurant and bar were very expensive and there were no easy alternatives in the area. Also, I tried to use room service and it was closed down fairly early. Also, be advised that there were two towers quite a distance apart from each other. I was fortunate to stay in best one which more than made up for the lack of restaurants and bars in the area. My room was great and hotel in general is awesome.
Positives: The hotel was beautiful and clean; the staff was very nice and helpful.
Negatives: The price of parking was outrageous; there were no stores or restaurants in the immediate area.

This is a great hotel if you want to use the marina facilities or need to be close to the airport, it is not good for going downtown. We went to the Gaslamp area and could not get a cab back to the hotel late at night. The rooms are nice and the staff very accommodating. They should offer a 24 hour shuttle service to the downtown area if they want more leisure travelers.
Positives: The room was very large and the view on the 12th floor was nice, the room had a balcony.
Negatives: The bathroom is small and out of date, the location is out of the way.
Reviewer: Not provided on Thu 28 Oct 2010 rated 10 out of 10.
Great location, close to airport and harbor area. Great views and near the downtown area. Friendly staff along with clean rooms. Showers were average and had low pressure. Lounge a bit small and plain. Would suggest eating at San Diego area restaurants instead at hotel restaurant with it's room service prices and slow service, even on a slow morning.
Positives: Excellent location and views of the Marina and Harbor area.
Negatives: Restaurant was overpriced for average food and slow service.
Reviewer: Not provided on Sat 04 Sep 2010 rated 9 out of 10.
The location is great next to the airport. See if they'll upgrade you to the newer larger towers. Plan on eating breakfast from Starbucks in the lobby because the hotel breakfast is expensive!
Positives: They upgraded my room free of charge.
Negatives: They made us pay to use the luggage cart.

It is hard to describe how loud this hotel was at all times. First, it is near the airport, so some airplane noise is expected. But, the doors, walls, and ceilings were so thing so I heard the neighbors talking, every toilet flush and shower go off. It sounded like water was flooding around the room at all times. Then, they decided to have the hall carpets professionally shampooed while we were there, so we got to hear the loud industrialized carpet cleaner. There was a wedding, so we got to hear the wedding party clammer up and down the halls. It was loud, and we weren't even by the elevators. Also, the gym isn't where the map or the guest book says it is so go ask the front the counter or you will be walking around the hotel forever trying to find it.
Positives: It had a nice view.
Negatives: It was unbelievably loud.

My experience with the staff’s competency tells me that if you’re a demanding guest, who’s hoping to get a 4+ star service, will not want to stay or come back to this hotel. I consider myself less demanding, yet I’m still disappointed with the hotel staff. First, I asked for a roll-away bed, and it took them hours to fulfill this request, only to bring to me a crib. A crib for an adult. Second, after I’ve checked out and approved their charges, they charged more to my credit card – some mysterious charges which they haven’t explained, despite the fact that I’ve called their accounting department and left a message. For all the frustrations, I don’t think it’s worth to stay at this hotel, having paid the premium.
Positives: Nice location. Beautiful view.
Negatives: Expensive parking, and incompetent staff.

Clean, well kept hotel. Not the greatest location.
Positives: Pub in hotel had great food.
Negatives: $22 for self parking in uncovered lot and small beds.

It is an older remodeled hotel. The service was fine, clean rooms, nice pool, and jacuzzi. The deal breaker was hearing every toilet that flushed between 10 pm and 7 am! I didn't sleep a wink!
Positives: The pool was lovely although could have been heated to a warmer temp. The location was picturesque.
Negatives: Able to hear other guests in adjacent rooms too well.

The hotel did not tell me that they charged $22 for parking per night when I booked the room. The only time I went to the pool they did not serve at the pool because they had a function coming up for a meeting and at one point they told us we had to move from our area for a function. I was very disappointed.
Positives: Location to downtown and the water.
Negatives: Many kids in the pool, they did not have service at the pool.

I liked the fact that the hotel has a pet friendly policy. However, due to the Memorial Day weekend, the staff was overwhelmed. We could not check in until after 2 hours of arriving (we arrived at 4:00 pm). The outside patio of our room had not been cleaned.
Positives: The name brand.
Negatives: Parking was overpriced and horrible.

The room was clean, staff was friendly. It was the old Sheraton and under renovation. If you want to spend for the view, it's great. And don't forget the $ 22 per night parking fee. I would go again.

Negatives: $22 per night parking fee.

We got there early and were able to get a room in Marina Tower. If we were late to check-in, the available rooms outside Marina Tower would not meet the quality of a 4 star hotel. There were only two on site restaurants in Marina Tower. The more upscale one was open for buffet breakfast daily. But, it was closed for most of lunches and some dinners. The sport bar menu was limited. There are three relatively close restaurants in Harbor Island, one within walking distance. Otherwise, you have to go to the Gaslamp District for fine dining and entertainment.
Positives: Exercise facility was excellent, accessible 24 hours a day.
Negatives: Too far from the convention center. Not appropriate for gas lamp category.

The hotel is located close to the airport, and the shuttle service is offered for free. And internet lounge is very convenient. I loved that the Starbucks is in the lobby. The marine view is great but others are so-so.
Positives: Good for business travelers.
Negatives: Staff is not friendly.
Reviewer: Not provided on Sat 08 May 2010 rated 5 out of 10.
Not a bad hotel for business travelers, but not a great place for leisure. There is nothing around the hotel within walking distance.
Positives: Nice view of the harbor.
Negatives: $22 a day for parking the rental car, that cost $14 a day!
