Wish I would have stayed at a Quality Inn and picked where I was going to stay. For the $ it was well below standards.
Positives: That it was in La Jolla, very friendly staff.
Negatives: Cheap feeling.

We were very pleased with the hotel and would recommend it and use it again.
Positives: Great location, friendly service, nice room, and good breakfast included.
Negatives: The bathroom had a weird sliding door that was strange.

From the moment we set foot in the hotel doors, our experience was high above our expectations. Our family arrived several hours before check-in time, and the two gentlemen at the check-in desk were very welcoming by allowing us to check-in early. They were also extremely accommodating by allowing us to change our reservation from a queen bed to two queen beds and a roll-away bed to fit the needs of our family of five. Additionally, the two gentleman gave us a friendly preview of the dining and shops in the area and even offered us fold-up lounge chairs to carry with us down to the beach. Never before have I received such welcoming, polite, and gracious service at a hotel. We greatly appreciated our stay with the Empress Hotel of La Jolla and feel that the two gentlemen that helped us during check-in deserve recognition for their excellent customer service. Thanks again! We will definitely be back in the future.

The room was nice. I didn't like being on the first floor. The room was smaller than I thought it was going to be based on the online description. But it was adequate. Nice bathroom. The front desk called after we were in our room and was trying to tell me that I booked a room with 2 queens. Luckily I had printed my reservation that showed I booked a King room. The valet was terrific and very helpful with questions.
Positives: The location was good.
Negatives: We were on the first floor.

Excellent staff that stayed out of your way, but helpful when needed. Great pedestrian-friendly area with lots of shopping & restaurants. Sightseeing & beaches a quick drive away. Very convenient free parking. Nice free breakfast. Clean and quiet rooms in a great upscale area.
Positives: Nice free breakfast & free parking.
Negatives: Room condition a little worn.

The room was small but adequate with comfortable beds. It is hard to say much nice about a hotel stay after myself and my children awaken with bites, and even harder when the front desk does not appear to care when told about our experience.
Positives: Overall the hotel should have been a nice experience.
Negatives: My children and I experienced bites overnight and the staff appeared completely disinterested.
