Montana Creek Campground is a campsite / RV park located in Anchorage.

Our campground is in the beautiful Susitna Valley, conveniently located just two hours north of Anchorage at Mile 96.5 on the Parks Highway. (On a map, the area is located midway between Willow and Talkeetna, about 50 miles north of Wasilla.) The campground is on Montana Creek, which is an excellent fishing stream, where grayling, rainbow trout, Dolly Varden, and king, silver, and pink (in even-numbered years) salmon are caught. A short walk along one of several trails leads to the mouth of the creek and the Susitna River.

Our campground has picnic tables, toilets, fire pits, barbeque grills, and our convenience store, the “Tackle Cache”. The store sells firewood, snacks, fishing gear, tackle and licenses, groceries, ice, used and new books, and RV and camping supplies and also rents fishing equipment. Some of our sites feature electric hookups.

We have several pull-throughs and many extra-long sites.

We have several flower gardens, and there are grassy areas that are especially popular with tent campers. All sites are beautifully treed and it is not unusual to see the bald eagles that frequent the property and fish in the stream.

The campgrounds are conveniently located within three miles of cafes, grocery stores, Laundromat, showers, church, gasoline, mechanical parts, and repairs. In addition, you'll be close to the recreational activities that the Susitna Valley is known for: flight seeing Mt. McKinley, river boating, rafting, and dog mushing.

Take a day trip and visit the historical gold-mining town of Talkeetna. As you can tell, after you catch your limit of fish, there'll still be plenty to see and do!

Depending upon the snowmelt, our campground opens the second week in May and, depending upon the weather, remains open until late September. We think you'll appreciate our reputation for friendliness and for maintaining clean properties. (Our motto is "Cleanliness and Friendliness!") Every year we make improvements.

Nearby restaurants include Sushi Garden, Southside Bistro, Uncle Joe's Pizzeria, and Carlos Mexican Restaurant.

Flight seeing is a fantastic experience and is highly recommended. Even a short trip will enable you to see the Talkeetna Mountains, the Susitna River, the Alaska Range, and the majesty of Mt. McKinley. Longer trips will enable you to fly right up to the glaciers of Mt. McKinley, or if you wish (and depending upon weather and time of year), to actually land on a glacier, walk around, sip champagne, and take photographs. These flights all depart from Talkeetna, a 30-minute drive from Montana Creek Campground. For more information, contact: Talkeetna Air Taxi 907-733-2218.
