Berwind is a community on the Dry Fork in McDowell County, West Virginia. The town of Berwind is named for Edward Julius Berwind owner of the Berwind Company and it was later incorporated in 1905. Berwind is the hometown of Vern Bickford, a starting pitcher in Major League Baseball who played with the Braves in Boston and Milwaukee, and for the Baltimore Orioles. Berwind is also known as a town who cares for others. It has a very successful fire station and is home to more than 300 people. Berwind used to be a route along the Miners road where the city now stands. Local restaurants include The Original Troy’s Pizza Italian-american Grill, Fountain, and Coalfield Cafe.
