The Historic Powhatan Resort

Williamsburg, Virginia

The Historic Powhatan Resort is a hotel located in Williamsburg.

The land called 'Powhatan' is a colonial plantation whose heritage dates to the 18th century. In 1735, Richard Taliaferro, the area's leading architect, constructed Powhatan Plantation's Manor House as his home. Restored with painstaking attention to historical detail, the manor house is the hallmark of our beautiful resort. The resort is located on over 250 acres of land, which includes a natural wildlife setting. Surrounded by a wooded forest, open fields, water foul and 5 small lakes, Powhatan offers a general store and two restaurants for our guest?'s convenience. Amenities include a 19-hole mini-golf course, hiking and biking trails, basketball, volleyball, horseshoe pit, racquetball, tennis courts, weight room and a variety of workshops and classes for guests of all ages. Most units offer a fully equipped kitchen, patio or deck and fireplace. Located nearby Busch Gardens, Water Country USA, Jamestown Settlement, Yorktown Battlefield and Historic Colonial Williamsburg. World-class golfing, shopping and a wide array of restaurants can be easily accessed within minutes of leaving the resort. Centrally located in Williamsburg within a couple of miles of the business district. Please be advised that The Historic Powhatan indoor pool will be closed for another week. We are anticipating having it open by 01September2009. All other facilities are open and available for guest use.

This property may also be known as Powhatan Plantation.

Nearby restaurants include Duck Donuts Williamsburg, Jersey Mike's Subs Williamsburg, A Chefs Kitchen, and Honey Butter's Kitchen.

We paid for a one bedroom but they put us in a two bedroom, which was nice. We had no towels upon arrival but they brought some that night. It is a time share that was recently bought out and renovations are being made, however we were in a old room which wasn't bad but I would not for the price of a timeshare! Avoid the meeting if possible (unless you like those things). The pool was nice. They have three, one for toddlers, families and adults only, also a bar. We didn't use the indoor pool or eat on site. Overall a good experience, minus the timeshare meeting.

Positives: Location

Negatives: Time share.

The Powhatan is on a beautiful property that is well maintained, and that offers beautiful pools and recreation. The condos are in a 5-year repair process, so while our condo was better than most hotels, the carpeting and upholstery really needed cleaning, but the condo is spacious and comfortable. The renovated condos are GORGEOUS. The plumbing can be problematic, but staff is on hand if there's a problem. The condos are fully stocked with kitchen appliances, utensils, dishes, etc. My husband and I attended the time share pitch and actually purchased a time share at Powhatan, but the resort definitely has a lot of renovations to make to the condos over the next few years. I don't know if the sales pitch is optional, so buyer beware if you don't want to deal with it.

Positives: This is a resort, and for the price was a great stay.

Negatives: This is a time-share, and guests are going to be asked to attend a 1 1/2 - 2 hour pitch, which we did not know.

This resort was very family friendly. Plenty to do swimming, tennis, racquet ball, mini golf and movie night. Hopefully they will update their units our family would love to go back.

Positives: We loved the location and the spacious unit also, the grounds were well maintained.

Negatives: The unit needed upgrading and a T.V. in the second bedroom. The arms on the furniture were dirty.

This is not a hotel it is more of a condo. We had a full kitchen, living room & 2 bedrooms. we were on the 1st floor so we also had a hot tub. Pool area was very nice. They had an adults only pool & also had towel service.

Positives: Modern decor, all conveniences of home plus some, convenient location.

Negatives: Was not warned about time-share presentation.

I was supposed to get a one bedroom deluxe but was given a two bedroom with lights that did not work and was definitely dated.

Positives: Nothing.

Negatives: Finishings were old.

Historic Powhatan Resort is located near everything that Williamsburg has to offer. There is a restored Manor House on site which really gives you the colonial feeling that is Williamsburg. The units have great floor plans. The pools are well kept, however we were disappointed to see that the wonderful shade trees in the pool area have been removed. We've stayed here before and it was so nice to have an option at the pool of shade or sun. Shade is no longer an option. The resort has a "dive-in" movie night (weather permitting) where you can watch a movie while in the pool.

Positives: Great location, good two bedroom floor plan, nice pool.

Negatives: The pool area used to have lovely shade trees but they have all been removed now.

Make sure you realize it is a time share. They did not pressure me to attend a time share spiel. But, we got no room service for the five days we were there.

Positives: Several different pools, and suite like rooms.

Negatives: Lack of room service, did not get trash, did not provide clean sheets or vacuum.

Great place to stay if you are in Williamsburg and want some privacy with two bedrooms and two bathrooms while traveling with others or your children. Everything was well stocked and clean. We would surely return there. They will try to sell you a time share meeting which we did go to and received another free stay and a $75 gift card. Very nice and courteous.

Positives: Great price with two private bedrooms.

Negatives: Pool area had too many undesireable, loud, obnoxious people so we did not go to pool.

The staff at check in need customer service training. It took over 40 minutes for our check-in as they couldn't find our reservation, even though I had a printed confirmation. Instead of addressing my family, the staff member answered about 10 calls and services for others but kept coming back. After we arrived to our room (which was very nice), the phone and hot tub were out of commission. We called from our cell phone only to then find out that the front desk staff member had taken my credit card but forgot to run it through the reader. It took multiple calls to get the hot tub maintenance to come and fix. Our room was also not ready at the 5:30pm time that we arrived, and when asked if this is normal, the staff member indicated many rooms are not ready by dinner for check in. It defeats the purpose of a short vacation weekend, right? If it weren't for the nice 2 BR condo, we would never return.

Positives: The 2 BR condo is very spacious and feels like home. The hot tub was a plus.

Negatives: The phone and hot tub did not work. It took multiple calls to maintenance and phone was never resolved. The check-in process was a nightmare.

Lovely timeshare and good rooms.

Positives: Lovely timeshare rooms.

Negatives: Even though I stayed one night, they tried to sell me a timeshare setting up appointments well after I left..

I loved staying at this resort. My room was like a town home with a full kitchen, a washer and dryer, living area, dining room, fireplace, hot tub, deck. It was wonderful and affordable. And it was very clean ... which is my top requirement. The grounds were lovely. Lots to do ... beautiful pool, recreation center, two restaurants and a general store. I highly recommend it !

Positives: It was VERY clean and comfortable. Everything you needed was provided. Far enough away to have peace and quite but a short drive to local attractions.

Negatives: I can't think of a thing.

After registration, you are referred to a second counter that gives you a hard sell to attend a sales pitch to purchase a time share. You can't get away, and are not given a key, until you agree to attend the sales meeting.

Positives: The grounds were nice.

Negatives: You must go through a hard sell for a time share.

Very nice. I will recommend to all my friends.

Positives: Convenience to Williamsburg, the room and surrounding grounds were excellent.

Negatives: The only thing was on our first two nights the family above us had small children and at times the noise from them running around was bad.
