The Hope and Glory Inn was a historic (1890) schoolhouse that has graduated into a mega stylish Irvington hotel with six schoolhouse rooms and six quaint garden cottages. Additional Chesapeake Bay accommodations include four Carpenter Gothic vineyard cottages called "tents" (modeled after Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard). They can be found a bike ride away at our vineyard - The Dog and Oyster.

If you're looking for accommodations that will absolutely make you gasp, you'll love this fine romantic inn located on Virginia's western Chesapeake Bay shore. The butter-yellow schoolhouse originally opened its doors (one for boys and one for girls) in the 1890s. Now, it has been transformed into an eclectic inn with seven guests rooms, six quaint garden guest cottages, and seven vineyard "tents," each individually styled by our designer Lisa Sherry, and hopelessly romantic.

With décor that is often called shabby chic, it’s best to describe our rooms as upscale and not luxury. Yet we do want our guests to be pampered a bit. Thus within each hopelessly romantic room, quests enjoy many luxury items including lush monogrammed bath robes, Hope and Glory toiletries, wireless internet, and high-quality linens.

Bicycles are complimentary. Reservations are not needed and Irvington is such a place where you can leave them anywhere unattended

Pet Friendly Accommodations We are most sensitive to man’s best friend. We have therefore designated two of our cottages and two of our tents as “Pet Friendly”. We do ask that dogs be on a leash when within our picket fence and gardens. There is a great lawn across the street where running is encouraged. Although it may be permitted at home, pets are not allowed on our furniture and bedding.
