Awesome hotel. The staff was warm and friendly, rooms were amazing in an unpretentious way (nice bathroom, bedroom + living room). Great location for getting around. Super high ceilings.
Positives: Friendly staff, wood floors, and spacious.
Negatives: No mini bar.

The Lodge Alley Inn is a beautiful hotel located right near Market St. in downtown Charleston. Those are the only good things about the hotel. The toilet in our room did not flush, we called and had someone look at it and they did not fix it. The hotel asked for 10-15 minutes to have the valet pull the car around. We gave those 30 minutes before we need to leave to be at wedding rehearsal and the wedding. They did not get it pulled around in time. My wife and I were standing in 90 degree heat in my Tuxedo and her Bridesmaid dress. To top it off the bride had a care package dropped off at the front desk with the weekend agenda and they forgot to give it to us. We would not have gotten it. Another bridesmaid told us to be looking for it. Horrible service.
Positives: The room was very nice.
Negatives: Service was horrible. Late to wedding because valet could not get the car pulled around in 30 minutes.

Things I Liked - Fantastic location, Large room, Period decor, Refrigerator and microwave in room, Fireplace. Things I Disliked - Even though free parking was listed as an amenity the parking fee was $12.00 a night, To get to the ice machine you have to go downstairs, through the lobby, out the entrance, down the walkway and across the courtyard (very inconvenient). Toilet needed to be flushed numerous times after use. Slow drain in bathtub caused water to backup and partially fill tub when showering. Bed was not made when housekeeping was in the room in the morning but they showed up that evening offering turndown service.
Positives: Great location!
Negatives: Did not offer free parking as noted. Toilet had to be flushed several times per use. Water did not drain in shower and backed up in tub.

This is in an excellent location for getting about Charleston. It is within walking distance of many attractions and fine restaurants and is easy to get a bus, trolley or cab from the area. It is comfortable, the rooms are ample and the staff is friendly.
Positives: Excellent location and ample room (two levels).
Negatives: Not much in the way of amenities.

Great rooms at an amazing locations. The staff is extremely helpful from showing you around the area and recommending great restaurants to hailing a cab for you .The service was beyond southern hospitality!
Positives: The amenities were great!
Negatives: The maid service could have been better.

From check-in to check-out, our stay was perfect. The valets were always friendly and helpful. The room was awesome, complete with fireplace. We plan to stay there on our future trips to Charleston!
Positives: Location - fireplace - great suite.
Negatives: Time to get cars from valet.

Very nice room, made me feel like I was staying in someone's home. Very nice amenities. The hotel is located in one of the nicest areas in downtown Charleston and is central to all of the tourist attractions. I will recommend this hotel to all of my friends.
Positives: Unbelievable value for downtown Charleston. Great location and beautiful room. First class accommodations.
Negatives: Shampoo made my hair feel like straw and hotel did not provide conditioner so it took me forever to comb out my hair. No diet coke.

The room was a very nice setup. We had a great time. I would stay here again.
Positives: The staff was always on top of things.

I completely enjoyed my stay at the Lodge Alley Inn. The location is excellent for walking in the historic district. The concierge was helpful with restaurant reservations and tour booking. We were pleasantly surprised that our room was a suite. Unfortunately, the bedding and pillows were not as comfortable as the rest of the suite. Upgrading these amenities could move this lovely property up a star rating. It is a timeshare hotel but we chose not to attend a presentation and were not pressured to. The restaurant had a wide range of selections not just low country cuisine, nice wine list and great desserts.
Positives: Excellent location, very friendly staff, complimentary cookies and sherry every afternoon.
Negatives: Bedding and pillows should be replaced. Could move up a star rating if this was done.

Being a vacation club hotel we felt the purpose was not for the vacation traveler but for the purpose of receiving a sales pitch to sell their vacation club. Most of the people were staying free and had to attend a sales presentation for the purpose of purchasing a vacation time share. I would not stay there a second time despite the good location and staff.
Positives: The staff and location.
Negatives: Vacation time share sales.

Our room had uncomfortable beds, neon light streaming thru the third floor window, a fireplace that did not work, turn down service on only the last night of a three night stay, and a television that was very poor quality. My husband broke his arm just before leaving on this trip and was unable to move luggage around. I had to load our luggage into the car as we left, while two hotel employees watched. I am 57 years old. I was not impressed with the staff!
Positives: Location.
Negatives: Several things broken in room, light and noise in room at night from exterior.

Apart from minor attitude issues by the staff, the hotel was very comfortable, clean, convenient to all tourist attractions, museums, restaurants, etc. I would definitely stay there again, and request a room facing the courtyard. I don't even want to know what is on the other side.
Positives: We asked for a room facing the courtyard and they were kind enough to honor our request.
Negatives: Staff was not rude, per se, but not exactly friendly and warm.

The hotel definitely has a historic feel and the location is perfect for tourists. Our room was large and comfortable and the staff was friendly and helpful. The concierge went out of her way to share information. I would consider staying at Lodge Alley again.
Positives: The location was great; we were able to walk to tourists attractions, restaurants, and shops. The staff and concierge were friendly and helpful.
Negatives: There was additional cost for maid services that I consider to be basic , such as making the beds. Continental breakfast would have been nice.

Studio room is decently large and well-decorated. Unfortunately, they do try to sell you on the time share idea, but the sales pitch is avoidable if you stay away from the "welcome concierge". Plumbing was not good at all, the bed was hard with very thin pillows and bedding that needed to be updated. The housekeeping only changes towels daily, which is disappointing. The location is so good though, that it makes up for some of the other shortcomings. Had I not got a deal through naming my own price, I would have been very disappointed in the hotel. I will look at other hotels for the next time I am in Charleston.
Positives: Location could not be better.
Negatives: Bed was uncomfortable, bad plumbing, bad housekeeping.

Positives: Nicely decorated, friendly staff, loved it.
Negatives: n/a

The hotel location made all the difference in the stay. If this hotel had been located elsewhere I would not rate it very well at all. The beds were saggy and uncomfortable and the timeshare element made me questionable about any of the employees. The room was located over an alley with music that was noticeable.
Positives: The location in Charleston was ideal.
Negatives: The rooms were mediocre and the beds were awful.

The room was very clean and the staff was wonderful in helping with our needs. We did have to exchange our room for a smoking room but that was no problem. I would recommend it highly if you like the night life and the party atmosphere of Charleston's down town. If not, you need to look for a place a little further out.
Positives: It was just around the corner from the slave market and great night life Charleston offers.
Negatives: Our room came with 2 full size beds. This was uncomfortable for my husband who is 6'4". We ended getting up and sleeping in separate beds.

Right in the middle of the action in Charleston, walk to restaurants, pubs, attractions.
Positives: Excellent location in the middle of Charleston.
Negatives: No fitness facility. No swimming pool.

The Lodge Alley Inn is part of a time share network so I was worried we would get pestered to death with sales 0pitches. This was not the case at all. We simply avoided the free sherry and cookie reception and passed on their offer of $75.00 if we took at 90 minute tour and we were left alone. We were in room 316 which was a studio complete with two double beds and a lounge area with fireplace and sofa. The room was beautifully decorated and very spacious. There is a courtyard with a fountain, and tables and chairs which has a very European feel to it. The location on East Bay Street is ideal for those who want to be within walking distance of shops, restaurants and attractions. There was some street noise on the weekend evenings. Charleston is a bit of a college town, but it did not detract from our stay. I think one has to look at the stay as more self catering/condo than hotel. With that in mind, you would not be shocked if you have to make your own bed. Overall, we were extremely pleased with out stay at the Lodge Alley Inn.
Positives: Beautiful hotel! perfect location, great value.
Negatives: A bit noisy at times but tolerable, minimal housekeeping.

The Lodge Alley Inn exceeded our expectations as far as being in an area of town that was near many of the activities. Restaurants were within walking distance as well as other interesting sites in the old historic part of Charleston. All of the staff were very helpful.
Positives: The room could be more described as a suite with two definite areas, was beautifully decorated and immaculately clean.
Negatives: I can't think of a single thing that I did not like!

Hotel is top-notch. The studio room in which we stayed was awesome and spacious. Staff members were friendly and eager to assist in any way possible during our stay.
Positives: Hotel is situated in the center of activity on E Bay Street.
Negatives: Does not have its own parking lot.

24-hour front desk. 24-hour security. Air conditioning. Children welcome. Full service housekeeping. Hotel does not provide pornographic films/TV. Housekeeping - weekly. Onsite laundry. Restaurant. Security.
