Hotel was nice. It was a bit hard to get to because of road construction. We opted to park our car ourselves because we knew we would use it often. Parking in the garage was insanely expensive.
Positives: Very nice area
Negatives: Parking rates are insane. And it was hard to get to because of construction.

Our room was very clean and comfortable. We were greeted warmly by the check-in staff and had our ride back to the airport booked by a very nice gentlemen working there.

Very pleased with our overall experience.

Hotel staff was very courteous and helpful hotel was clean and quite however parking was a bit pricey. I think Marriott would offer a break in the garage pricing for guests at the hotel. Fitness area was very large but pool could have used a little more attention to the scum line around the top.
Positives: Comfort of the beds and friendly helpful staff.
Negatives: Parking prices hotel does not have parking.

The hotel has a wonderful staff, there to help with all your travel needs. The view of the city and surrounding neighborhoods was spectacular. There are many venues in walking distance, including shopping, sporting events and many great restaurants.
Positives: All staff helpful, friendly, polite and work hard, loved the soap collection and coffee setup, the view was great.
Negatives: Secluded, room was`t ready and there was nothing to do at the hotel.

This was our second time staying here. Both occasions the wake up call we asked for was never delivered. There is no parking and you get shammed because of it. The shuttle took us to the ball game but never came to pick us up. My family and I had to walk back to the hotel through inner city Pittsburgh in the late night hours. We were told the shuttle ran ALL day, but was not available to us until 4:00pm without any explanation.
Positives: The steak from room service.
Negatives: No wake up call, no parking, and lack of knowledge by the staff.

The Marriott was nice. We had a drink in the bar. The floor around the bar was dirty, like it had not been swept in a few days. The first room we got was behind the elevator shaft and we could hear the elevator every time it went up or down. We moved to 2nd room which had moths flying in it because someone left the windows open (the room was on the 16th floor) and the carpeting was soaking wet on the side of the bed. 3rd room<BR/>was fine, but by that time it was midnight.
Positives: Location.
Negatives: We had to move 3 times until we got a satisfactory room.

Was in town for a conference at the David Lawrence Convention Center. Took the "Super Shuttle" from the airport which took a LONG time in evening rush hour traffic - plus I was the very last drop-off so it was nearly 90 minutes from airport to hotel. Check-in was a breeze. I was put on the lowest floor of rooms (which is 10 I believe). View was of the old Mellon arena. Couldn't quite see the new Console arena outside my room. Room was large by today's standards. Two double beds. Nice flat-screen TV. Refrigerator built into the dresser. Bathroom was very small, had to squeeze around the door just to get into the shower. Fitness facility was good - had the same cardio equipment as my regular gym so it was nice not having to learn to set up a session. All-in-all, a pleasant stay at the Marriott.
Positives: The fitness facility had good equipment, free water and fruit.
Negatives: The location was a little far from the Convention Ctr I was in town for.

Loved the location, but there was nothing outstanding about the hotel. Would compare to any average beside the interstate one-night stay type hotel, not as extravagant as I thought it would be for the price. Parking was terrible and cost an arm/leg.
Positives: Location
Negatives: Severely overpriced for average hotel.

Close to proximity and to everything you need to do in downtown.
Positives: The bedding.

Positives: Location
Negatives: Old, worn room furniture, needs replaced for the cost of the room.

The hotel was not a 4 star quality hotel. The fixtures, including the TV were old. The bathroom was small and two people could not be in the bathroom at the same time. The hot water worked in the morning, however any showers taken after 6pm were taken with lukewarm water. I have stayed in 3 star hotels that were much nicer than this one. I was very disappointed.
Positives: Location
Negatives: The bathroom was extremely small, and the hot water did not work.

Bed was very comfortable. Nice gym. Everything else was very basic and not much more impressive than a Motel 8. Bathroom was small, tub didn't look clean and inviting, and the shower faucet left half the water pressure streaming from the fixture straight to the drain. Very basic cable on the TV. No DVD player, and renting a DVD player from the front desk cost twice as much as the nightly room rate. No micro fridge. No coffee pot. No bath robes, very small towels.
Positives: Closeness to Mellon Arena, decent gym and indoor pool.
Negatives: Expensive parking, unimpressive rooms, tiny bathroom.

Very lovely room. My wife had her hair styled and manicure. The staff at the salon were very friendly and she enjoyed the stylist. He kept her interest and talked about the city and told us about the sites we should see. Very friendly and social able.
Positives: Friendly staff, location, I didn't eat at the hotel.
Negatives: Parking was high.

Seems geared to the business traveler. Rooms are comfortable and staff is very professional. Sound insulation could be improved. When you walk down the halls, you could hear everything (including some passionate activities) going on in the rooms.
Positives: Comfortable beds.
Negatives: No drink machine on the floor.

Hotel is just outside the downtown area but still convenient to walk to destinations. Staff was very friendly and helpful, room was clean and comfortable. Lack of convenient self-parking is slight problem.
Positives: Completely non-smoking
Negatives: Parking was inconvenient if you didn't use valet.

Excellent hotel room. I did not spend much time at the hotel other than to sleep. The public spaces were clean and attractive. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet.
Positives: Huge clean quiet room
Negatives: On the edge of the business district. Had to walk a bit.

Great location. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Room was spacious. Hotel bar and restaurant was nice. Shuttle services were very nice. Overall, the hotel is nice and a great place to stay in downtown Pittsburgh.
Positives: I liked the location.
Negatives: Didn't like having to pay for parking when you already pay to stay at facility.

The overall experience was excellent. I could see the Civic Arena or should I say the Mellon Arena. The beautiful lights of Pittsburgh, and just an overall view of such a beautiful city. I would recommend the Marriott Gateway of Pittsburgh to all who need a place to stay.
Positives: I was overwhelmed with the service that was offered from the complete staff, I was there to prepare funeral arrangements for my grandmother.
Negatives: That the parking situation was as such.
Reviewer: Not provided on Thu 30 Apr 2009 rated 4 out of 10.
The hotel staff was wonderful but the main valet parking attendant was not friendly.
Positives: Clean rooms and close location to Mellon Arena & downtown.
Negatives: Main valet attendant was very rude.
