Be careful when you book the Pinehurst "Resort" you may just get the "Manor Inn", as I did, for the same price as the luxury rooms in the bigger and much better Resort and "Carolina" hotels.
Positives: Clean.
Negatives: Small rooms.

I live in NC and still love every minute spent at The Carolina and Pinehurst Resort. The staff is friendly and helpful, southern hospitality at its best, and golf is magnificent. The spa is beautiful and everyone goes out of their way to make your stay outstanding.
Positives: Charming.
Negatives: Can't think of a thing.

I live in NC and play golf in the Pinehurst area once per year, but this was my first time staying in the resort. The reason for the visit was due to attending a family function near Pinehurst not playing golf. This is a historic hotel with some of the best golf courses in USA, but sadly the resort is not what I would consider 5 stars. Check in was at 4 pm and we arrived after 4 pm and the room was not ready we waited and hour. The rooms in our section of the hotel are small, but have been recently renovated and was very clean. I wanted to stay at this hotel because they have an indoor swimming pool, but they informed me children under 12 are not allowed since it is in the spa area and there would be an addition charge to use the pool. Continental breakfast is available, but the set up and variety are much worse than any chain hotel I have stayed at recently. The staff is friendly and helpful, but I don't think the hotel management company is capable of operating a 5 star resort. I will defiantly return to play golf, but will stay elsewhere.
Positives: Historic and beautiful main hotel. Golf photos and memorabilia.
Negatives: Waited one hour after check in time for the room. Check in at 4 PM room not clean at 5PM.
