This is an old hotel. It's trying to look like a classic hotel, but comes off as simply old. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, creaked and squeaked with the slightest shift of your weight. The air/heat unit was loud. I got no sleep. They charge an additional fee at check-out for the hotel amenities. Things like swimming pool, business center, etc. None of which I used but apparently everyone pays extra for it. I say extra because the fee is charged at checkout automatically. It is not included in the posted rate. Do not stay at this hotel, you have been warned.
Positives: The staff was co-operative and friendly.

Negatives: Charged a misc fee at check-out and told it's charged to everyone for the amenities, (like a swimming pool, business center, etc.)

Getting a little tattered on the edges. Wallpaper lifting up in the bathroom. Floors were clean. Toilet seat loose. Felt clean and safe, but didn't think it was great. No breakfast included and a five dollar fee for the pool. The hot tub was cold.

Positives: Friendly staff.

Negatives: Cold "hot" tub.

It needs a serious makeover.... And to be upfront about additional charges!

Positives: Location to hospital perfect.

Negatives: Worn out and additional charges after quote.

Stay away from this hotel, it is a rip off and needs to be inspected by the health department and hotel upper management.

Positives: The exit.

Negatives: Everything inside the hotel.

Clean and comfortable hotel in a great location. The staff is friendly and it is easy to get around with the free shuttle. Rooms are dated but large. Could use an extra chair. Don't expect your cell phone to have service in the room. Overpriced at the asking rate.

Positives: Location is fabulous. Shuttle service is great. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

Negatives: Room and bath needs updating to be a 31/2 star. No cell service is a deal breaker.

Reviewer: Not provided on Tue 23 Aug 2011 rated 3 out of 10.

Not a 3 1/2 upscale I don't know who rates these was very disappointed.

Positives: Lobby was pretty.

Negatives: Old smelled like a basement.

The only thing that was really good at this hotel was the shuttle service.

Positives: Beautiful furnishings.

Negatives: Internet wasn't working. No cell phone reception. Bed was crowned at center and sloped off.

Great for travel and wonderful for families.

Positives: Absolutely fantastic staff!

Negatives: Everything was great.

We did not have cell service in our room. The air conditioner rattled loudly. The show ran extremely hot then cold repeatedly. There was an extra charge to cover wireless service in the lobby area then optional charge if we wanted wireless in our room. Shower ran hot/cold constantly. Do not think this should have 3 1/2 star rating. Maybe 2 star.

Positives: Location.

Negatives: No cell service. Extra charge for wireless in room. Extra charge for wireless in lobby.

The rooms were horrible: peeling wallpaper, dirty air vent in bathroom, mildew around tub in bathroom, leaking bathroom facet, dirty bathroom floor, rusty figures including door hinges....need I say more! Then on top of everyone, even though we had a DO NOT DISTURB card in the door, someone quietly put a key card in the door and slowly tried to open the door, but realized they couldn't because we had the security bar on. It couldn't have been housekeeping because no one ever knocked. It was at 9 am in the morning of our last day there. Not a great feeling.

Positives: The front lobby area gave the appearance of upscale.

Negatives: Poorly maintenanced rooms, uncomfortable beds and bedding, mildew in bathroom.

The staff was friendly, Priceline got us a great deal. The hotel is aging but well maintained and comfortable.

Positives: Location, cleanliness, shuttle around town and above all staff friendliness.

Negatives: No information about the city in the rooms or in the lobby.

Positives: Front desk staff service was superb.

Negatives: Vending located too far from room.

Rooms are dark and outdated, needs major renovation on rooms. Also, charged a $5 per day resort fee not sure what that covers because they wanted an extra $10 per day for web access. Would not call this a 3.5 star more like 2.5 star, but the location is great and staff was helpful.

Positives: Location is great close to Duke.

Negatives: Need rooms updated-outdated with poor lighting.

Nice location, friendly staff, nice lounge, room ok, shower needs help ( female could not pull out the handle to use and the water spray kept getting extremely hot then cold, actually got scalded). Could not check out on TV.

Positives: Location, nice lounge.

Negatives: Extremely poor shower.

Very nice staff. Pretty lobby and amenities if you have time to use them ie, pool, restaurant, bar, work out area. They told us we could have an upgrade from deluxe to superior, but the next day we learned they are the same room. You have to go to the club room to get a better room, so I felt dupped.

Positives: I liked that it had a pool and exercise are, although we were not able to use them because we did not have the time they looked nice.

Negatives: The bathroom was dated and the wall paper was peeling.

The hotel is in a good location for any business at Duke. It is close to restaurants and shops. It is not a high quality hotel; it is not clean enough in all areas.

Positives: Good location for my meeting .

Negatives: The stairways were not very clean.

Good choice for business trips. Simple and clear. The staff was helpful and friendly. But don't expect too much.

Positives: Great location and clear.

Negatives: No flat-screen TV and free wireless in the room.

Reviewer: Not provided on Thu 23 Sep 2010 rated 5 out of 10.

Not very clean and in desperate need of upgrades to TV's, carpet, furnishings, bathrooms, lamps in room, etc. Looks like a hotel that has no money.

Positives: Price.

Negatives: Cleanliness.

Beautiful hotel. One major issue and one minor issue. There is absolutely no phone service anywhere in the hotel, except in the lobby by the front door. For this hotel to be 3.5 stars, this detail is sorely lacking and really needs to be corrected quick. They've gotten too many complaints to not have figured something out by now. The hotel needs a financial investment. The lobby furniture is a mess. The carpet needs to be pulled in the hallways. Business travelers who rely heavily on phone usage might not find this hotel an ideal place to stay. I'm a business traveler, but I'm not stuck to my cell phone 24/7. Rather than that, I'd still stay here again because the service we received was outstanding. To me, that makes up for the lack of cell phone service.

Positives: Friendly staff, comfortable room, and convenient location.

Negatives: No cell phone access; pay to use Internet.

Hotel is not handicapped friendly. Inadequate number of handicapped parking spaces and no doorman made for parking far away, in the dark, did not feel safe as I am disabled and traveled with young child. Also, once inside the hotel, the rooms are a long distance away. And nobody mans the front desk - they are behind a door with a camera and come out once you arrive, not a very welcoming greeting and frustrating to wait for service after you have been driving most of the day.
Positives: Location.

Negatives: Unexpectedly charged for wireless internet in room, daughter's IPod Touch; inadequate handicapped parking. No valet at door to help disabled.

First, the bed and the bedding were wonderful. So, I got a great night's sleep. However, the room I was in needed a lot of help. There were two phones in the room, but only one worked. Both phones were missing buttons; there were actual holes where buttons should be for room service, front desk, housekeeping, etc. The hotel room book that contains information was dated, pages torn out or falling out, with past visitors writing notated, the shower curtain rod was rusted, the under mounted bathroom sink had mold, right at the granite lip line. The lobby was beautiful. Maybe they are still slowly updating the hotel. My room was way in the back.

Positives: Excellent bed and bedding.

Negatives: Room was dated, everything but the bed needs to be changed.

Reviewer: Not provided on Mon 22 Feb 2010 rated 7 out of 10.

My overall stay went very well, staff was friendly courteous and the hotel had everything I needed for my stay.

Positives: Price was good, location was good, food was good.

Negatives: Needs updates bad! Had to pay $9.95 a night for internet access Very outdated.

Excellent staff, lovely southern mannered and polite, excellent service and promptness, very clean and well kept.

Positives: Staff was superb at accommodating my needs.

Negatives: Lack of food choices for dining.
