Cena's Nook is adjacent to and was once a part of Pertle Springs, a popular resort area in the late 1800s. Pertle Springs is now owned by UCM and is the location of UCM golf course, several fishing lakes, hiking trail and relics of the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) camp of the 1930s. It was also used as a training area for the army during WW1.
The house was built in the early thirties by Cena Christopher Draper and her husband, Mont. Cena's grandfather, J.H. Christopher, owned Pertle Springs when it was a resort. Cena was an author and playwright and according to her publisher, "her works are warm, humorous accounts which reveal her closeness to nature and history."
