Places to stay in Oldtown, Maryland
Oldtown is a community in Allegany County, Maryland along the North Branch Potomac River founded in eighteenth century colonial times. The settlement was initially called "Shawanese Old Town" because it was the site of a Shawnee Amerindian village abandoned about a decade earlier. In later years the explanatory prefix was dropped from the name and the place because known simply as "Oldtown. Oldtown was begun with the building of a trading post along an old Native American trail, the Nemacolin Trail, as traders, especially fur traders pushed over the Cumberland Narrows Mountain pass into the Monongahela River valley and found the trail could make a safe descent along a reasonable grade down to the river in the area of a river ford overlooked by the bluffs and mounds of the Redstone Old Fort area, now Brownsville in Fayette County in Western Pennsylvania. Places to eat in the region include Ryleighs Brew Pub, Plates Restaurant & Catering, Attman's Delicatessen & Catering, and China Harbor Chinese Restaurant.

Obrycki's Crab House ( Dining / Seafood ). Located at 1727 East Pratt Street, Baltimore, 1 mile from the center of Oldtown. Established in 1944, Obrycki's started as a bar in Baltimore's historic Fells Point neighborhood and in short time we became well-known for great steamed crabs and the best and freshest crab cakes in town. Though we've expanded from our original location, our goal has always remained the same: to create a one-of-a-kind enjoyable experience centered on great Chesapeake regional food. We focus on using fresh blue crab meat in our menu items. And, we realize that as we grow, it is impossible to duplicate the "authentic crab house" feel of our original restaurant in our new locations. We will promise you this; our standards and quality at any of our locations are, and always will be, "authentic".
