Dismal location, stained furniture. Were the sheets pre-used? Hard to tell. Terrible breakfast, terrible.

Positives: Easy access to the interstate system.

Negatives: Everything else.

The hotel is fine. Very basic, but clean and even has a pool and hot tub. It is right next to the airport. It would be a good place to stay if you are flying or if you are planning to go to a Sea dogs game. It is about a mile from Downtown attractions.

Positives: It had a hot tub.

Negatives: It was a mile from the downtown area.

The web site mentions "Refrigerator" in the room amenities. Upon arrival, I asked to make sure and they said they didn't have a refrigerator in every room, and I wouldn't get one, being a Priceline customer. I had to argue a little, mentioning their web site was misleading saying it was part of the amenities, to finally get one. That's why we kept our room, even tough there was a big spot of liquid on the carpet.

Positives: Big flat screen TV, pool and spa.

Negatives: Room with big spot of liquid on the carpet.

Outdated. Hallways smelled musty. Rooms were clean, but needed a major renovations. Not my idea of a three star.

Positives: Close to Portland.

Negatives: Uncomfortable beds, outdated, and overpriced.

The hotel is easily accessible to highway for nearby attractions. Staff are polite and responsive. Building is older, single elevator...which was a bit inconvenient, but not impossible to live with. The price was right.

Positives: Friendly staff and convenient location.

Negatives: Leaky pipe.

Reviewer: Not provided on Sun 14 Aug 2011 rated 6 out of 10.

The hotel was alright for a 2 star hotel. It was definitely not a 3 star hotel.

Positives: Location

Negatives: Overrated

Reviewer: Not provided on Sat 06 Aug 2011 rated 5 out of 10.

The first room we checked in to overlooked the pool. It smelled like chlorine and the pool visitors were very loud - we could hear everything from our room. We asked the front desk to change our room and they were extremely kind and accommodating. We received five star service at this hotel. Unfortunately, the rooms did not live up to that level. Our second room was much quieter, but it smelled like smoke. The room had an outdated bathroom. Overall, I was extremely impressed with the service, not so impressed with the accommodations.

Positives: The staff was fantastic! They were willing to change our room when we weren't satisfied.

Negatives: The room smelled like smoke, and it was not updated or very welcoming.

Overpriced for its location. Will pay retail price for Hampton Inn which is near the Old Port.

Positives: Bed was comfortable.

Negatives: Old hotel in a lousy location.

We were very disappointed about the location of the hotel. It was further than we anticipated from downtown Portland. The rooms were big and clean. They tried to put us in a room with two double beds, which was not what I had requested in the bid. They did switch us, though.

Positives: Big room.

Negatives: Nothing special.

Reviewer: Not provided on Sat 16 Jul 2011 rated 9 out of 10.

Very clean, nice comfortable bed, and nice lobby.

Positives: Clean and comfortable!

Negatives: No continental breakfast.

Good location clean spacious rooms.

Positives: Location

Negatives: Too many children.

Reviewer: Not provided on Sun 03 Jul 2011 rated 9 out of 10.

Location, lobby is clean and airy. Parking was sufficient and safe. Gym, jacuzzi and pool were also nice.

Positives: Front desk upgrade to pool room.

Negatives: Check-in 3 pm.

Reviewer: Not provided on Tue 07 Jun 2011 rated 3 out of 10.

The staff were very nice! I have never seen a picture frame that was contact papered over to look like wood. That's not a 3 star hotel. I could have paid just $20 more for a hotel w/complimentary breakfast and in a much better location. I would think twice before using Priceline again. The hotel is located next to a gas station--not very scenic and there were nowhere nice to walk to in the surrounding areas. The rooms were noisy. The only good thing about the hotel is that if you have been traveling for awhile and need to do laundry, they have washers and dryers on the premise.

Positives: Has washer and dryer on premise.

Negatives: Poor location--not within walking distance to downtown or wharf in ugly part of town. Ugly rooms. No complimentary breakfast.

Reviewer: Not provided on Thu 26 May 2011 rated 2 out of 10.

Don't bother with this hotel. It's only convenient to the train station. Very basic lodging. Couldn't wait to leave.

Positives: The front desk people were courteous.

Negatives: The location of our room: adjacent to the pool. Our room and all of its contents smelled of chlorine.

Overall, I was disappointed with this Clarion hotel. I've stayed at other Clarion's which were much nicer and deserving of a 3 star rating. This hotel is definitely NOT 3 stars. The staff was friendly but a bit unprofessional. (The only front desk person on staff was eating in the office area where all can see.) The bartender appeared disturbed by the fact that we were looking for dessert at 9pm, then all they had to offer was cherry pie. I was attending a conference at a nearby hotel, didn't want to stay there because of the ratings given by other customers, but now I wish I had. Should've done my research because the price I paid through Priceline was the same price I could've gotten from the hotel itself, so I believe Priceline overstated the median price of a 3 star hotel in that area.

Positives: The beds and bedding were very comfortable.

Negatives: The restaurant was almost non-existent. The hotel needs updating, it's old and drab, needs repairs in the pool area.

Reviewer: Not provided on Fri 22 Apr 2011 rated 5 out of 10.

Limited television channels, a broken window in the room, difficulty adjusting the thermostat, toilet not completely clean.

Positives: Being on a fairly high (8th) floor.

Negatives: Kind of dumpy.

Reviewer: Not provided on Sun 03 Apr 2011 rated 4 out of 10.

Refer to the less than good ratings.

Positives: Can't

Negatives: All the ratings above except for the staff in the hotel who did their best. .

Our first room - headboard had fallen off wall. 2nd room - back of toilet seat was broken, mold on bathroom ceiling, tub did not drain proper, sink had a leak, phone was dead. Stairway door knob was falling off the door. Facility needs many updates. Staff was very pleasant and helpful.

Positives: The staff was excellent, other than the restaurant staff. We got to breakfast about 15 minutes to closing and she made us feel very uncomfortable.

Negatives: Hotel is falling apart.

Reviewer: Not provided on Wed 08 Dec 2010 rated 6 out of 10.

The staff is very friendly and professional. The rooms need to be redone to reflect a more modern appeal.

Positives: The pool was warm.

Negatives: The rooms were small.

Reviewer: Not provided on Fri 03 Dec 2010 rated 8 out of 10.

The hotel desk staff were very welcoming and helpful. The hotel is under going some renovations so the hall carpets and the ice/pop area were a little shabby looking in some areas. Our room though was very attractive, comfortable and sparkling clean as was the bathroom. I was more than happy with the price I paid through Priceline. I would certainly stay here again. The restaurant in the evening was a Pub style place and so the food was typical of such a place not much choice and greasy. We went to breakfast in the morning but had to leave because we could not find anyone there to serve or wait on us. So overall it is a great hotel as long as you plan to eat elsewhere.

<BR/>

Positives: The desk staff were very pleasant and helpful. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean and bed was comfortable. Hotel was central to shopping.

Negatives: Because of updating going on so some areas (hall carpet and ice/pop areas) were not as pleasing looking as the lobby and the room.

It was fine. The hot tub was broken, and I was not able to open the door to go to the pool. I later found out that the doorknob is tricky and that the pool was open as advertised. The room was fine. It heated up quickly, and had very heavy curtains that did a good job of blocking out the spotlight just outside the window. The tray with the glasses on it was sticky, and the maid knocked on the door at 8:30 in the morning, (didn't know you had to put up a do not disturb sign since check-out wasn't until noon). Lots of big fluffy pillows, and a comfy armchair. Very friendly front desk staff.

Positives: Friendly staff at the front desk.

Negatives: Maid knocking on door at 8:30 a.m.

Reviewer: Not provided on Thu 28 Oct 2010 rated 3 out of 10.

I would not stay at this hotel again. The hotel is beat and tired. Room service was quick but they forgot some utensils and the some of the food was cold. The only thing complementary was a small cup of warm coffee the next morning. OK, if just for a place to sleep.

Positives: Friendly staff.

Negatives: Weary and rundown, bad location, no complementary breakfast.

Reviewer: Not provided on Mon 18 Oct 2010 rated 7 out of 10.

Overall, ok. If your looking for a place to stay as your passing through, it works. I wouldn't plan to stay there for more than a night or two.

Positives: Friendliness of front desk staff.

Negatives: Hot tub was very dirty! No towels in pool area.

Reviewer: Not provided on Sat 16 Oct 2010 rated 8 out of 10.

For the price that I paid, the facilities were quite acceptable, but they appeared to be in the process of remodeling or updating the building.

Positives: Pleasantness of the employees.

Negatives: Not easy to get into and out of from the traffic.

Reviewer: Not provided on Tue 28 Sep 2010 rated 8 out of 10.

The hotel was tastefully decorated and very clean. The beds were comfortable. The bar staff was friendly.

Positives: Friendly front desk staff.

Negatives: The breakfast.

Reviewer: Not provided on Fri 10 Sep 2010 rated 8 out of 10.

The staff was very friendly. The room was clean. The hotel did show signs of wear, especially in the elevator and the hallways. The bathroom were a little small. We had a picture in our room. The frame was covered in what looked like contact paper.

Positives: The bed was very comfortable.

Negatives: The location was not great. We walked to a ball game &amp; were a bit frightened walking back.

Reviewer: Not provided on Mon 06 Sep 2010 rated 7 out of 10.

I've stayed here before (maybe 2 years ago) and had a very nice, new, updated room on the first floor. Apparently in the intervening two years they have not made it to the third floor with the renovations. Older furniture, dingy carpet, etc.

Positives: The staff were the best thing about it.

Negatives: Outdated room, and slow elevator.

Reviewer: Not provided on Tue 31 Aug 2010 rated 10 out of 10.

Would highly recommend. Friendly staff, clean and comfortable.

Positives: Comfort and friendly staff.

Negatives: Restaurant was not very friendly.

Reviewer: Not provided on Sat 24 Jul 2010 rated 7 out of 10.

Fine for a one night stay prior to an early flight. Close to airport.

Positives: Good location..

Negatives: Not the cleanest.

Reviewer: Not provided on Mon 07 Jun 2010 rated 2 out of 10.

The hotel is fine - clean, basically what you need for a night. Then at 3:00 am, college kids were banging on the doors on the same floor - for about 1 hour - I tried calling front desk several times, but no one answered the phone.

Positives: Location.

Negatives: Food was cold when it arrived to the room.

Reviewer: Not provided on Thu 13 May 2010 rated 3 out of 10.

Over wrought manager was a pleasant guy under duress. Unattended housekeeping carts were left in the hallway along with plastic bags of trash. Food was marginal. I do not intend to stay there again.

Positives: Bed was ok, so we were able to sleep.

Negatives: Over priced, under maintained, and poor location.

Reviewer: Not provided on Sat 24 Apr 2010 rated 3 out of 10.

Okay. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Place is old, needs some updating. People in lobby were very helpful. Convenient location.

Positives: Comfortable bed.

Negatives: Hallway needed an update, hallway rugs dirty, stuck way in a corner.

Attractive and comfortable. Would stay again.

Positives: Attractive rooms, very comfortable bed and pillows.

Negatives: Reading light not strong enough.

Reviewer: Not provided on Wed 02 Dec 2009 rated 4 out of 10.

First impression was nice. Hallways were nice. However, the bathroom was not: Mildow on bathroom ceiling and curtain. Also the room was using the old heating systems. The bed sheets were very wrinkled. Had to ask for an extra blanket. No complimentary coffee in the morning.

Positives: Lobby and first impressions very nich.

Negatives: Mildow on bathroom ceiling and curtain. old heating system, very wrinkled sheets. had to ask for extra blanket.

Have stayed at this facility a few times with positive reactions. This stay had a very poor room, windows up so high could not see out. Heating system very loud and could see black residue on ceiling from the unit. Had the feeling since used discount booking, did not get the best room.

Positives: Overall hotel is very nice, friendly staff.

Negatives: No windows, very loud heating unit.

The Clarion Portland Maine's friendly helpful staff and the excellent shuttle service that puts you in easy reach of destinations within a 5mile radius make the Clarion the place to stay for a weekend get-a-way in Portland especially if you come with having a lobster dinner in mind!

Positives: The shuttle availability to multiple destinations. Friendly staff.

Negatives: Tiny towels in the pool area.

Reviewer: Not provided on Thu 26 Nov 2009 rated 3 out of 10.

I would not recommend this hotel it does not live up to it's star level, I would say it was more like a 2 star, they did not give us transportation, (as it states in it's hotel accommodations) we had to get a cab, the hotel was not really all that clean and walls where very thin, the hotel was very loud, it is not a romantic place to go very disappointed in the room and the hotel, I was woken up by the hotel staff at 9 am they continued to bang on the door even after I hold them I was still here an didn't want to be disturbed.

Positives: The bed was comfortable.

Negatives: The walls were very thin we could hear the couple next door all night, it was very loud, from our neighbors we had a very hard time sleeping.

Reviewer: Not provided on Tue 27 Oct 2009 rated 8 out of 10.

Quality stay for a reasonable price.

Positives: It was convenient.

Negatives: It was close to the expressway.

A fine family hotel.

Positives: Comfortable.

Negatives: Location.

Reviewer: Not provided on Wed 30 Sep 2009 rated 9 out of 10.

Situated a little out of town we were worried about how we'd get into the old town area, but we didn't have to worry - they provided a free shuttle bus and even dropped us at a couple of different spots (a great diner and art museum) and not just their standard stop. The hotel was nice and clean and had friendly staff. The buffet breakfast was a reasonable price and included a wide range of hot and cold foods. If I was in the area again, I'd stay there again.

Positives: Free shuttle into old town and great buffet breakfast.

Negatives: Couldn't use the shuttle at times when the CAT ferry departed/arrived from Nova Scotia each day.

Reviewer: Not provided on Mon 21 Sep 2009 rated 10 out of 10.

Stayed here as an overnight stop of day trips we were taking. The bed was super comfortable and the room was very quiet. (Would have thought with the highway and airport nearby it would have been noisy). The staff was accommodating and friendly. There is a restaurant there and room service is available for breakfast. We took a dip in the hot tub. It was comfortable but the room could use a bit of an atmosphere. A great stay for a great price!

Positives: Clean, comfortable beds, quiet &amp; relaxing. Great commuter location!

Negatives: A drive to most attractions. Pool &amp; hot tub areas could use some ambiance (but they were very clean!!)

Reviewer: Not provided on Mon 21 Sep 2009 rated 9 out of 10.

Clean, quiet rooms with attentive staff.

Positives: Overall great value- clean, courteous staff.

Negatives: Would like to be a bit closer to old portland next trip.

Reviewer: Not provided on Thu 10 Sep 2009 rated 7 out of 10.

Very good hotel for the price paid. Not a luxury property by any means but the pool was nice and the service was very friendly.

Positives: Nice pool and hot tub. Great service. Not too far from downtown Portland.

Negatives: Mystery wet spot on the carpet.
