Our Beautiful Maine Inn is located in the sea coast Village of Blue Hill, on Blue Hill Bay, in the heart of Down East Maine, 45 minutes from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.
. Built in the federal style, in 1830, the house was the home of Captain Isaac Merrill, a Sea Captain who was still sailing at the age of seventy. In 1996 the great granddaughter of Captain Merrill, Jane Hemmerly-Brown and her husband Dan restored and renovated the house and original barn, creating a family owned, historic country Inn.
Explore the charm of Blue Hill and Castine, with their art galleries, potteries, antique and gift shops, or the stark beauty of Stonington with its fishing fleet at anchor, or discover the grandeur of Acadia National Park on Mt Desert Island, with its fjord, sand beach, rocky inlets and the bustling scenic town of Bar Harbor, or perhaps sail the pristine waters of Penobscot Bay, amid islands sprinkled with mussels, nesting birds and sunbathing seals. Two of the Rooms can be joined to make a two-bedroom suite for large families. All Rooms have private baths. Two of the Rooms are named for early Blue Hill ships.
The Captain's Room - The graceful bedroom of Captain Isaac Merrill, on the 2nd floor, overlooks the village. Original, wide pumpkin-pine floor boards, reveal the hand made nails of long ago…. The Four Poster, queen-size bed is adorned with a delicate macramé canopy. The fireplace remains unchanged from when it was built in 1828, working now with gas logs. Large windows built by ships carpenters surround the room, giving it the feel of the master’s cabin in a grand sailing ship.
To maintain the integrity of the room, a "water closet" contains small sink & toilet, with the tub/shower is in the bedroom, beside the fireplace, hung with curtains, giving the experience of living in an 1800’s house. Also in the room: writing desk, settee, and satellite TV.
The Julia Elizabeth Room - Named after one of Captain Merrill’s Ships, this simply elegant room, on the 2nd floor at the front of the house, has original, pumpkin-pine floor boards, the original 1828 fireplace, (now with gas logs), a Four Poster, queen-size bed, and a well-appointed private bath, with large sink and shower.
Also in the room: writing desk, couch, satellite TV.
The Parlor - is the only room on the first floor, at the front of the house; the official “receiving room” for guests in 1828. It has four large windows looking over the village, and delightful, original 1828 fireplace, (now with gas logs). Four Poster, queen-sized bed, with a single sleeper couch, can sleep 3. To maintain the integrity of the house, a "water closet" holds small sink & toilet, and the bathtub/ shower is in the room by the fireplace, hung with draperies, where the rocking chair was in this picture), giving the experience of living in an 1800’s house. Also in the room: settee and satellite TV.
The Courtyard Room - A charming room with wide, pine board floors, and the original fireplace, (now with gas logs) on the 2nd floor at the back of the house. This room can sleep 4 with a Queen-size Sleigh Bed, and very comfortable, double-size, pull out couch. The private bath is across the hall with large sink and shower, for your exclusive use. Also in the room: writing desk and satellite TV, with kitchenette across the hall.
The Magnolia - Jewel of a little room overlooking the courtyard at the back of the house. Named for the 1st three- masted schooner to be built in America, in Blue Hill, by the Father in law of Captain Merrill. The room contains a Double-size antique bed, and a private bathroom.
The Mountain View Room - Peeking at Blue Hill Mountain, this room has a private entrance at the back of the house. Windows overlook the courtyard. There is a Four Poster Queen sized bed, fireplace and a private bath.
