Our stay at the Seneca was wonderful. We played phone tag with the manager regarding some questions and he graciously upgraded us to a wonderful suite. He was very accommodating in all ways during our stay. The location is perfect, you're right in the midst of downtown and close to everything. Right off the beach. The gym was great. Didn't eat at the restaurants but they seemed like they would be lovely.

Positives: The room was fabulous, be sure to request an upgraded room, the manager is gracious.

Negatives: The valet parking is too expensive.

Overall, it was great. Great security, SUPER-helpful staff. I was in town for a wedding and realized the day of the affair that I could really use my dress dry-cleaned. The downstairs cleaners not only did it same day, but delivered it to the front desk for me to pick up, since I planned a full day of activities and would not be back before they closed. Excellent service.

Positives: In-house dry-cleaning facilities did same-day service.

Negatives: Room smelled funny upon arrival and was sort of small.

We stayed at this hotel with our 2 children - ages 3 & 10. We wanted a hotel that offered suite accommodations and easy access to Michigan Ave.
The room was
very clean, but the furniture was a little worn and the overall decor a little outdated. The mattress also needed to be replaced; it wasn't totally worn out, but it definitely could have been more comfortable. The full kitchen was great and very clean. Overall, we got the space we needed and the location at a very affordable price.

Positives: The hotel, while a bit outdated, was very clean. Hotel staff was friendly and responded quickly.

Negatives: The furniture and decor were outdated; mattress was worn and a little uncomfortable; refrigerator in suite did not work properly.

My husband and I stayed at the Seneca for two nights as a surprise get away for his 30th birthday. To be honest, however our experience was nice. We were on a budget and wanted a decent place to stay with a great location, which is what we got. We were a couple blocks from all the action. We would stay here again, especially if we were on a budget!

Positives: Location! Not to mention it was half the price as much as the other hotels in the same area!

Negatives: The rooms needed a little TLC. The shower water was warm at best.

The hotel was nice. The staff was very courteous. The only true problem was there were flags right outside our windows. They would whip in the wind and the noise was loud enough to be disturbing.

Positives: The kitchenette.

Negatives: Getting little old, noisy flag poles outside our room.

Besides location this place should close until they get their act together. Asked the front desk to have housekeeping clean my room and they knocked on my door at 5 pm. to clean but I told them to go away. Hammering above my room at 7 am. This place needs to close and regroup not while they are open.

Positives: Location.

Negatives: Did not clean my room in the 3 nights I stayed.

It was overall a nice stay. We liked the room we had and the location but construction waking us up made us very mad. Doormen and people taking our luggage expected tips every time which got annoying to but their services were appreciated.

Positives: The room was very nice. We had a kitchen that came in handy a living area and a very nice bathroom.

Negatives: We had construction going on in the rooms around us and it woke us up very early every morning we stayed there. That made us very unhappy.

I though the overall appearance was nice but there was a few quirks that I felt to be very annoying. The temperature in the shower would fluctuate every 3 seconds to freezing cold to scalding hot no matter what. When we checked in, our room was missing its door knob and lock and the door was wide open and debris all over the floor. When I brought this to the attention of the front desk, he asked if we could share a room with other members of our group! 8 people in one room with two beds-I think not! we were moved 3 times total! and the kitchen sink plumbing leaked all over the floor and we had to clean it up. Very bizarre experience in a hotel.

Positives: Nice size of the rooms.

Negatives: When we checked in our room was missing the lock and door knob, we were moved 3 times! The kitchen sink plumbing leaked all over the floor!

My wife and I arrived at the Seneca around 12:30pm after driving around the block several times just looking for Chestnut Ave. The car was valuated (only choice) for $43 and the hotel allowed us to check in early with a king size bed upgrade. This hotel is an apartment building in the process of being converted to hotel suites. It is right at the beginning on the Michigan Ave shopping mile, and everything is within walking distance. The perfect hotel for a Chicago shopping trip.

Positives: This hotel is only one block from the Magnificent Mile.

Negatives: The hotel was on a hard-to-find one way street.

The location is very convenient to the Miracle Mile shopping, Museum of Contemporary Art, and Red Line train. My room was very quiet, the bed was comfortable, and I will definitely stay here again when I travel to Chicago.

Positives: Excellent location and staff, very comfortable beds, great amenities (kitchen, newspaper, etc.).

Negatives: Had to call maintenance to fix hot water, but they responded very quickly.

The Seneca is a unique property. Most of the rooms are suites with kitchenettes which make for an extremely comfortable stay for the price and the location. The hotel staff is friendly and accommodating and you cannot beat the value for the location right off the Magnificent Mile.

Positives: Spacious accommodations, great location, great value.

Negatives: Room was newly remodeled and Jacuzzi tub was not working properly.

I was worried about booking a 2 star hotel. However, it was better than a lot of 4 star hotels that I have stayed in. The location, price and cleanliness cannot be beaten. I would definitely recommend it to anyone, whether they are on a budget or not. OK the staff wasnt super friendly, but the comfort and cleanliness made up for this. The maid even did our washing up. It is great to have a kitchenette and we even had a full size oven. This hotel cannot be recommended highly enough. Go there!

Positives: Excellent location and the cleanest hotel that I have ever stayed in. Shame about the unfriendly staff, but you can't have everything.

Negatives: Unfriendly staff at the front desk.
