My expectations were exceeded for this hotel because I got such a great price for this downtown location. Everything about the place was nice. However, if you're looking for a super deluxe hotel with a dramatic lobby and fantastic views, this is not your place.
Positives: The front desk clerk was funny
Negatives: The room service after hours menu was sparse.

I would definitely stay at this hotel again-great location, martini bar with piano entertainment, friendly and helpful staff, good food and just nice atmosphere all the way around.
Positives: Classy, great location, loved the martini bar with piano player (Tues-Sat). Staff was great.
Negatives: Liked everything.

The location was superb...1/2 block to Michigan Ave and also to the Lake. Older hotel that has been upgraded. The rooms were nicely appointed but very small. The bathroom was absolutely tiny and we did not care for the shower heads at all.
Positives: Great location...walk or public transit to everything.
Negatives: Very small rooms..bathroom was the size of a coat closet.

Very accommodating to our needs. I am a nursing mother and the staff offered me an additional fridge to store my babies food in.
Positives: Great location.
Negatives: Had to pay an additional price per night upgrade charge to have two double beds. Most hotels honor a bed change free of charge.

Highly recommend the hotel, it's just beautiful with old class charm and well appointed rooms - delightful. The only disturbing thing was not very busy, restaurant was empty and so was the lobby area made me feel I didn't make the right choice. But I have to say that's the only thing.
Loved the room, bed was comfortable, design was modern and when I ate a meal it was fantastic.
Positives: Old class charm, well appointed rooms, close and convenient for business calls and shopping. Could walk to lake shore in the morning for run was perfect
Negatives: The door to my room looked like it was marred with knicks like someone busted the door open, need It fix the entrance to the rooms

Although nice, the hotel was small, and not having a pool or sizable lounge area and limited restaurant menu, it encourages you to go out.
Positives: Cleanliness.
Negatives: No pool, small room, no control of fan speed on air conditioner, limited restaurant menu.

Positives: Location, price and 4 stars.

This hotel is conveniently located, close to the water tower district, shopping and dining. I would recommend it to someone looking for a nice, clean hotel that is close to dining and shopping.
Positives: It is very conveniently located. Great accommodations for what I needed for this trip.
Negatives: The front desk staff, in my opinion was not as courteous and promote as I would have liked.

This hotel had a great upscale atmosphere with very nice accommodations. I loved hearing the piano at the bar in the lobby. Staff were helpful and friendly.
Positives: Very clean, adequate space and a great atmosphere.
Negatives: Shower doors leak quite a bit onto the bathroom floor.

I enjoyed my stay at your hotel immensely. I thought the room was tastefully decorated. The staff was polite and helpful. I was unable to access the wifi for some reason, but they did let me use the computer free of charge. I was grateful that the fitness room did not have a charge for usage, and I did use the fitness room. The complimentary apple (in the fitness room) was nice.
Positives: I liked the atmosphere, my room was wonderful (I slept like a queen), and I loved the fitness room.
Negatives: No swimming pool. Parking can be costly.

Wonderful location. Rooms are small but I expected that and was no problem. Very friendly and helpful staff. Packing expensive but that's Chicago. I would recommend and stay there again.
Positives: Very friendly and helpful. Great location.
Negatives: Called for last minute directions while driving into Chicago- transfered and got an answering machine.

Great old hotel. The rooms were a little small, but the beds were super comfortable. The bathrooms are updated, but the shower is a little strange since it is a rain shower with little pressure overhead, but the door opens in so the floor can get soaked trying to get in. The location of the hotel is great just off Michigan Ave and a block from the Hancock Tower. Would definitely stay here again.
Positives: The location and the quality of the beds.
Negatives: The rooms were a little small, the shower was awkward and the bellman were not that friendly.

We were especially disappointed to learn that this 4 star hotel did not offer a complimentary breakfast. It was even more disheartening to know that we were at the Embassy Suites 3 1/2 star hotel just 2 years earlier and were served a hot breakfast of anything we wanted from their menu at no extra cost.
Positives: We found the room to be very modernized, especially the bathroom fixtures which were really nice.
Negatives: The thermostat was purposely set to a winter setting ~ meaning you could not cool the room down to a desirable temperature. We had to request 2 fans.

Small room with good bed and adequate bathroom. Excellent location. Friendly staff.

Negatives: Small room.

We had a great time at this hotel. Room was a very good size, bed was very comfortable, and the ambiance of the hotel was classic with modern amenities. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
Positives: Room size was a welcomed surprise. It was a fantastic size and layout with comfortable amenities.
Negatives: Had to pay for Internet.

Hotel was clean and refurbished. Location was excellent. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Except for the shower leaking in the bathroom the room was very nice. Food seemed a little over-priced for quality. Would stay there again.
Positives: Location and staff.
Negatives: Shower leaked quite badly.

This hotel was quite nice but more expensive than some much more impressive ones we have stayed at. The breakfast at NIX was wonderful and service was fabulous! The room was small and the bathroom had no fan in it which was strange. The shower head was directly in the middle of the shower and the door opened to the inside so whenever you turned the water on, you got soaked. Bed was amazingly comfortable, view was nice and hotel was very clean. I would stay here again.
Positives: The bed was so comfortable!
Negatives: The bathroom had no fan.

We were pleasantly surprised. I would stay here again. Location great, modern, clean, quiet and enjoyed ourselves!
Positives: Location, friendliness of staff and newly remodeled rooms.
Negatives: Smallish.

This hotel is located in a very high end area, but the hotel itself is not at a 4 star or better hotel. I feel that at one point in time it really could compete with the Drake Hotel which is across the street, but it no longer can. Rooms are very small. The bathroom as been updated, but still not up to my cleaning standards.
Positives: Out of the staff of people we meet during our stay that was friendly was the doorman and the maid. Everyone else either was very rude or did not speak.
Negatives: I was not please with my stay at this hotel. The shower was not clean. Mildew/mold was forming in the tub1.

A great hotel. Parking was not very good--in the Drake's lot, which was hard to access.
Positives: Very modern room and faclities.
Negatives: The slowest wireless internet I've used since the 1990s, and it was not free.

Fabulous location. Rooms a little cramped but comfortable and clean. Elevators slow. Ventilation and soundproofing not great.
Positives: Nice bedding; nice alarm clock.
Negatives: Ventilation suboptimal; could smell cigarettes from next door. Rooms a bit small.

Clean and friendly with good service.
Positives: The two concierges that helped us were wonderful and helpful!
Negatives: Hated the shower! The toilet seat was uncomfortable. The room was small.

Small hotel with no customer service. The rooms AC did not work and when asked to switch to another room, the front desk rep told me to open the window. I asked for a fan to be brought up both night I stayed at the Knickerbocker and I never got it. The Knickerbocker is a 2.5 star hotel, Ive had better service at the Best Western.
Positives: Restroom was updated and clean.
Negatives: The Air Conditioning in the room did not work.

Quaint, newly refurbished rooms, I was even able to open a window in the room. Very clean.
Positives: The hotel was very clean and enjoyed our stay very much.
Negatives: A little pricey on items in room and room service.
Reviewer: Not provided on Sun 09 May 2010 rated 7 out of 10.
Should be a 3 or 3.5 maybe.
Positives: Location.
Negatives: Old, across from the Drake which is a 5 star hotel. Could not hold a candle to the Drake.

I will recommend this hotel to friends and family. The rooms were very clean and the beds comfortable. Temperature of the room was perfect. Location was good. When we use Priceline in the future, we will have a big smile if the Knickerbocker is selected for us!

Positives: The location was great. Staff was helpful. Restaurant had everything together-food was delicious.
Negatives: The check-in time was long. They were training a new staff member, but did not give him the guidance that he needed. Check in took 30 minutes.

The room we really modern and romantic. The doorman was extremely friendly and the location was amazing. Small annoyances with the room but overall a great hotel. The public areas are deceiving because they are outdated but the rooms more than make up for it. I would definitely stay there again.
Positives: The room was really modern. The bed, TV, and bathroom were amazing!
Negatives: Only a few amenities in the bathroom, the water from the shower leaked onto the floor, and they had an HD TV but no HD cable.

A great hotel in a great location for shopping and sightseeing. It is several blocks from the CTA red line, but if you don't mind that short walk, the entire city is easily accessible.
Positives: The staff was very friendly.
Negatives: The rooms are somewhat small.

All of my stays were great value. This past stay for 3 days, 2 rooms ended up being way more than I ever expected especially knowing Chicago and its hotels.
Positives: We liked location.
Negatives: Poor initial greeting. Huge upcharge per night for request of 2 beds vs king.

Beautiful lobby, great and friendly staff and convenient to downtown Chicago.
Positives: The lobby is beautiful and the people were very friendly and made us feel very comfortable.
Negatives: The bathroom was small and not very private.

This hotel was not a 4 star in my mind. They did not have a full gym, the common areas were outdated and a little dingy and the room was tiny. The bathroom was renovated, but the shower door was too close to the faucet making the bathing experience a disaster.

Positives: The bed was comfortable and the room service was decent, the location was centrally located as well.
Negatives: The room was tiny, the hotel was old, they didn't have a real gym (just a workout room).
Reviewer: Not provided on Fri 12 Feb 2010 rated 10 out of 10.
Overall, the room was very nice. Wonderful shower!
Positives: Great location.
Negatives: Room was smaller than expected. Only one easy chair for two people.

I stayed at the Knickerbocker a long time ago, but only for a night so I decided to give it another go around on my last visit to Chicago. Although it is an older hotel, I find it to be a Chicago Staple that is in great condition. The staff was friendly and courteous and although I arrived a bit early, they had a room available for me. Yes, the rooms are on the smaller side, but coming from a traveler that does most of her business in New York, this is nothing. The bathrooms are very nice and large enough to not feel cramped, and the classic style of the hotel exterior and lobby are continued within the room. For all Chicago travelers, the Knickerbocker is definitely worth booking a stay.
Positives: Got a great rate. Bathrooms are gorgeous.
Negatives: Nothing, I really liked my stay.
