Exceeded expectations for a 2.5 star hotel. Pro's: friendly staff, great location, clean rooms. Con's: no free continental breakfast, expensive parking, lack of amenities (pool, weight room), no ice machines, (had to ask front desk).

Positives: Amazing location, close to all of the major attractions, near public transit.

Negatives: Toilet was clogged when we got there, shower didn't drain well.

The Tremont is a great hotel to stay in if you want to see Chicago, but are on a budget. The location is absolutely perfect, it's right next to the Hancock tower. The hotel is not a luxury hotel, but it is perfectly adequate. The staff is polite and helpful and the rooms were clean. The lobby is very charming. I would definitely recommend this hotel!

Positives: Great location and

Negatives: Nothing

Great great location. 3 blocks from the beach. Staff was very nice and helpful but very understaffed. If u don't need anything the hotel is just fine for one night but i wouldn't recommend it for more than that. We stayed two days and would have like to have a pool gym etc. The beds were cozy and the rooms clean but had a funny smell that lingered in and he wallpaper was falling off the wall. Also there is only one very small elevator and 15 floors

Positives: Location

Negatives: Completely Understaffed. Very old and not updated. No amenities.

This establishment is low quality. No ice machines on floor. No microwaves at all. No info from staff on anything. TV channels were scarce. Was charged for incidentals and there was nothing there worth for the price.

Positives: Nothing

Negatives: The heavy paint to cover up the mold problem.

if you are looking for a perfect location while visiting Chicago's magnificent mile check this one out. At Ditkas restaurant, although pricey, you will not be disappointed. If your lucky, as we were, you might even get to see mike ditka.

Positives: Ditkas restaurant, ideal location.

Negatives: Slightly small, that is a stretch to write something negative.

We arrived at the hotel around 3:30pm. The elevator was extremely small, maybe could only hold 4-6 people, and when it goes up and down, the elevator is all shaking as if it is going to fall any minute. The room decor looks quite out of date, the bath sink is clogged, and we complained three times but the front desk is not friendly nor helpful at all. We couldn't take a shower for two days because of the clogged sink. Right next to the hotel, there is a huge construction going on, starts from 8am until 7pm or later. We complained to the front desk, but they could do nothing. Basically, the experience is awful. We won't come back again and will not recommend it to anyone.

Positives: None.

Negatives: There was a construction site close by making great noise and dust all day, hotel sink is clogged, complained three times, staff very unprofessional.

This was once a jewel, it's location is perfect for walking to Rush Street, shopping at Watertower Place and much more. They have tried to bring back the old elegance but many of the issues plaqued by old hotels still need tweaking. The staff switched our room immediately, they were right on to fix problems in the next room. For the money you cannot beat it, just don't think it will bring you a Hyatt!

Positives: Location.

Negatives: Old, cosmetic updates but lots of irritating broken things.

The Hotel felt like a part of Chicago History. Very classy and upscale Very well maintained. Made us feel very special to be staying there. Bed was very comfortable. Would definitely recommend to others, and would stay there again.

Positives: Very friendly and convenient.

Negatives: Should have ice for your room.

The Tremont has a great location. It is an old hotel and has only one small elevator for 16 floors. Although, we did not have to wait too long for the elevator. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The hotel had character. Not your typical chain hotel. It suited our needs and I do not have any negative feedback except that there was not a coffee maker in the room.

Positives: The location was great.

Negatives: There was not a coffee maker in the room.

I booked based on price, location and reviews. While I didn't check out, I won't be checking back in. The good: location and staff were excellent; continental breakfast at Ditka's ($5 per)OK, but nothing to write home about. The bad: the walls of our room were literally crumbling, held together by peeling wall paper, the TV needed adjustments to watch the few channels available but the controls to do so had been disabled. If what you want is a relatively inexpensive room right on the Mile with good transportation options, and are willing to disregard the rest, maybe this is for you. But it doesn't match the quality of even the cheapest chain motel.

Positives: Location

Negatives: The walls are literally crumbling.

The Tremont is an old hotel with a little wear and tear. There are only two elevators to service 14 floors. It is clean and the staff
was very helpful and friendly. The restaurant in the hotel is famous and the prices reflect that.

Positives: The staff could not have been more helpful nor pleasant.

Negatives: There was no computer available for guest use and our TV was not working.

Reviewer: Not provided on Sun 15 Aug 2010 rated 6 out of 10.

Front desk was not friendly or helpful at all. They put a $50 incidental fee on all rooms which was held until after checkout. The staff did not tell us they were doing this until after it had been done.

Positives: Great location.

Negatives: Had to pay for breakfast and parking fee outrageous.

Reviewer: Not provided on Fri 13 Aug 2010 rated 7 out of 10.

They only had single King size beds. The staff was not polite. However, the location and price were great.

Positives: The location was great.

Negatives: Dated bathrooms.

The location and desk staff were excellent, but the elevator was creaky and there was no ice machine or drink machine. The TV had very minimal channels. The city view was nice and the bed was good.

Positives: The location is excellent.

Negatives: The creaky noisy elevator made me uncomfortable.

During shower, water was ankle deep and would not drain. Staff was not very friendly. For one night, it was manageable, but I'm reluctant to take chance again for fear of staying here again.

Positives: The restaurant was terrific.

Negatives: Moldy shower that did not drain, noisy pipes, and telephone did not work.

Small and very attractive old European style hotel in the heart of Chicago's near north side. Mere steps from Water Tower Place, and the Hancock Building. Excellent staff and service. Perfect for the little get away.

Positives: Great location, yet small and quaint.

Negatives: The building and other parts of the room had started to show its age.

The hotel was nice. It had a full kitchen, which would have been nice if we were staying more than two nights. We could use wireless in the lobby, but was very inconvenient for me. Overall, it was a great hotel.

Positives: Great location and nice continental breakfast!

Negatives: Wireless Internet was not working in the room.

This is a nice place for a comfortable stay. The lobby is elegantly cozy and our room (one queen bed) was moderately small, but fine for a weekend stay. The bed was very comfortable and the street outside was a bit noisy until about 11:00-midnight, when it quieted down considerably with only occasional traffic. The free continental breakfast was nothing exciting, with bagels and cereal and the like. Would have liked a pool, but overall a very nice place and would gladly stay here again.

Positives: The lobby and room were comfortable and decorated nicely.

Negatives: Would be nice to have a pool or access to one.

Kind of has a haunted bed and breakfast feel. Good for a short stay. Not good for children. During my staff I heard my neighbor relieving himself and the upstairs neighbors taking a romp in the sack. Not very sound proof. Staff was very polite and accommodating.

Positives: Old, nostalgic surroundings.

Negatives: One elevator that is really slow, old

I liked that it was quiet the room was nicely decorated but the paint on the ceiling was peeling and there were water stains as well. The wallpaper in the bathroom was also peeling.

Positives: It was quiet and in a good location.

Negatives: The paint was peeling off the walls and bedding had stains.

The staff was friendly and the location was great. Still my only complaint was that there are no rooms with more than one bed in them and no cots are available at the hotel.

Positives: The location was fantastic.

Negatives: The hotel only has rooms with one bed in it and does not offer cots.

This hotel located in the great location of anything you would what to do from dining to plays, to bars. The staff was friendly and very attentive. Quite and romantic with a great smell as you walk into the lobby. The bathrooms were good size and the beds very comfortable.

Positives: The lobby smelled wonderfull and the rooms were very comfortable

Negatives: The hallways could use a new coat of paint

The hotel is clean and I got a great. Biggest complaint was that I was cold in the room. I basically had to wear a winter coat or be under the covers. The windows are single paned and let the cold Chicago winter in that night. I had the heater on high, but it didn't blow out very hard so the windows were winning the battle. It is right next to Ditka's restaurant. I ate there. I thought the prices were high and that the food wasn't that great. When I told my Chicago colleagues that, it was like I had offended their religion. I think they don't see past the name of it.

Positives: Nice neigborhood close to restaurants.

Negatives: Chicago winter came right through single paned windows.

I would recommend this hotel for those who are coming to Chicago for shopping. The location was excellent! It is older and needs a bit of updating but the people were great and the room was fine.

Positives: The location and the old world charm.

Negatives: The elevator was a bit rickety and there was only one for 16 floors.

Reviewer: Not provided on Thu 06 Nov 2008 rated 6 out of 10.

Good location within walking distant of shopping district. Rooms a little small.
Positives: Location.

Negatives: Dated decor.

The location was in a good location close to shopping and dining. The staff was very rude and not accomodating to our needs. One room was not ready after check-in and there were no appologies made instead we were treated like we were an inconvenience. There are no amenities such as a workout facility or added luxuries.

Positives: The location was good.

Negatives: The desk staff was incredibly rude at check-in. Manager was present and did not relieve situation.

The staff at this hotel went above and beyond being helpful. They were so nice and friendly, that means everyone from the doorman to the bellman to the front desk staff and housekeeping...all were great!

It is an older hotel, so it did not have some of the amenities that the more modern hotels have, but it made up for it with charm. The rooms are all different. I noticed that noise did not carry from room to room or from the hall to the room. I could not hear the TV next door through the wall.

The location couldn't be better. The neighborhood is cute as can be, and I felt safe walking around.

If you want rollaway and vending machines, computers and video games, this is not the place for you. But if you want charm and warmth, it is.

Yes, the elevator is slow, but it worked.

I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Positives: The staff was friendly and helpful.

Negatives: No publicly accessable ice machine.

This is a cute, boutique hotel. The common area is cozy. The location is ideal to the heart of Michigan Avenue. The shortcomings of the hotel are no refrigerator in the room so even if you wanted to bring some food back to your room for the next day there is no way to store it. Also, no provision for ice. So even if you buy drinks at the local Trader Joe's, no way to have the ice cold.

Positives: It's a charming, boutique hotel with a great location just a few steps off Michigan Avenue.

Negatives: There is no refrigerator in the room. There is no provision for ice. There was no shower cap for the shower. Also, the bathroom door when open hit.

Reviewer: Not provided on Thu 09 Oct 2008 rated 1 out of 10.

This hotel staff seemed like they were going out of their way to serve us.

Positives: Vicinity to shopping.

Negatives: Poor customer service in every sense of the meaning!
