The Gates House Bed & Breakfast
Columbus, Georgia
The Gates House Bed & Breakfast is a bed & breakfast located in Columbus.
Gates House East opened its doors on June 28, 2001 after a complete renovation. Built in 1873 by A. S. Matheson, it has only had four owners in its 130 year history. After serving as a residence for the Matheson family for 63 years it was sold to the Catholic Club of Columbus where it served as the Knights of Columbus Lodge for 60 years. Purchased in 1997 by its 3rd owner, it served as a residence and limited bed and breakfast and we purchased it in December, 2000 to make it into a full bed and breakfast. It has been fully restored to its original beauty, to which all of the modern conveniences have been added.
Places to eat within 5km of The Gates House Bed & Breakfast include Minnie’s Uptown Restaurant, Houlihan's Restaurant, 7th Street Provisions, and Samurai Japanese Cuisine & Sushi Bar.

Additional details
Room 1-E, the Green Room, is one of our honeymoon suites. It has a custom-designed king-size bed with the most elegant fabrics we could find. Enjoy a fire on a cold evening, take a bath in the large Jacuzzi and feel pampered beyond your wildest dreams.
Room 2-E (Versailles Room) - the Versailles Room, another honeymoon guest room features another custom-made king-size bed that has a corona that supports yards and yards of exquisite gold and maraschino fabric. It just doesn’t get any nicer then this. Enjoy the delightful window treatment in this room. Don’t you expect Marie Antoinette to stroll in at any time?
Room 3-E (Mardi Gras) - The colors and the beads in the window treatment make you think of New Orleans and fun-filled days and nights. This room has a double bed and a twin bed; the perfect room for the traveling family. The 1876 chandelier has been adapted to electricity, but this takes nothing from the charm of this rare find.
Room 4-E (Mills Room) - has a wonderful bay window with an oak pub table for work or tea. Another gas chandelier has been electrified for additional charm in this room. The bed was a great find that has been adapted to queen-size. You’ll love this room – so spacious and so colorful. Enjoy all the unique and beautiful oriental pieces in this room, especially the wooden water carrier that sits beside the buffet.
Room 5-E (Vase Room) - The Vase Room is pure joy to the eye. This exquisite antique bed is our only standard full-sized bed. We just couldn’t resist its beauty when we saw it at an auction. The mattress had to be custom made to fit the unique lines of this beauty. There are special hidden spots for you to store your valuables or money. We’ll let you find them or we’ll tell you where they are. With this beautiful bed, we also found the matching marble topped vanity. You won’t be able to stop talking about this furniture. It is old world beauty at its best.
Room 6-E (Georgia Room) - Room 6-E is furnished with a queen-size bed that will soon become a canopy bed. The colors in this room are the richest and will sooth you the moment you step inside. The wallpaper in the bath is reminiscent of the turn of the century. You’re going to enjoy this room. There is a wonderful oil painting in this room that was a gift from a visitor from the Republic of Georgia – part of the former Soviet Union. The street scene is an old hotel in the town of Zugdidi, Soviet Republic of Georgia.
Room 7-E (The Nest) - Our Only upstairs room is another honeymoon guest room called The Nest. You’ll especially enjoy the extra large bathroom with the large Jacuzzi tub. The oak bed is a family heirloom from Carolyn's family. Pray for rain when you stay in this room. You can hear the raindrops just over your head.
