The Mansion Inn Bed and Breakfast
Manchester, Connecticut
The Mansion Inn Bed and Breakfast is a bed & breakfast located in Manchester.
Located in the center of Connecticut, The Mansion Inn Bed and Breakfast offers quick access to the Interstate highways that connect all New England, and is just a 15 minute drive to downtown Hartford. The Mansion Inn Bed and Breakfast was once a mansion home to the Cheney family, Connecticut silk barons who made their mark in the world's textile industry and is one of the oldest Hartford Connecticut Inns. The Cheney family enjoyed a close friendship with Mark Twain's family, who lived alongside Harriet Beecher Stowe at Nook Farm in Hartford. Harriet Beecher Stowe's sister, Isabella Hooker, was a confidant of Mrs. Emeline Cheney, who lived in the Mansion during the 1890's, the two ladies sharing an enthusiastic interest in séances and spiritualism.
Although each room has its own vest-pocket library, THE MANSION INN is stocked with hundreds of books. A reader's delight, nooks and crannies hold caches of popular paperbacks and older, long out of print books. The INN is the perfect place for peace and thought, or for a potential author to find inspiration to begin writing that first novel.
On chilly mornings, breakfast is served fireside at the dining room's massive antique table. In fair weather, guests breakfast on the piazza in a garden of old roses, lilacs, and honeysuckle. Innkeeper Bruce's breakfast recipes are seasoned with culinary influences from twenty years of business travel from Paris to the Orient. Bruce prepares entrees with herbs and vegetables in season from THE INN'S herb garden.
Places to eat within 5km of The Mansion Inn Bed and Breakfast include Mulberry Street Pizza, 21 Oak, Landmark Café, and Bistro On Main.
