It consists of a cluster of houses and small businesses surrounding the campus of Campion Academy, a private secondary school operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church and founded in 1907. The town is named for John F. Campion, who helped establish the sugar beet industry in northern Colorado in the late 19th century.
