Breckenridge is a municipality that is the county seat of Summit County in Colorado. It was born out of the rowdy gold rush of the 1860s, spent its childhood in prohibition, its teen years in the 1960s, and reached maturity at the turn of this century. Every January, the International Snow Sculpture Championships are held in Breckenridge, where sculptors from around the world compete to create works of art from twenty ton blocks of snow.
