If private, quiet and cozy are what you're seeking, the cottage is the place to stay. It offers rustic simplicity-with a few modern conveniences. Lounge in the living room by fireplace or sit on the wooden deck and read a book in the middle of the forest. Get back to the basics by heating your water or cooking your dinner on a wood-burning stove.
The campground is set along the nature trail in a primitive woods setting. The Appalachian Trail and fun rock scrambling for kids are only 200 yards away. It's perfect for a young person's first outdoor experience. The campground has three fire rings, two picnic tables and two privies. One fire ring is surrounded by benches and is well suited for group activities. A stone pavilion has a picnic table and open fireplace. Across from the pavilion there is a woodshed with free firewood. The lodge offers free water from an outdoor spigot, showers for $3, and a telephone for emergencies. It has the capacity for four individual campsites. Groups can fit up to 20 three-person tents.
Spend the night in a secluded stone lodge built in the 1930's. Originally a private mansion, the impressive 8,000 square foot facility is nestled in the peaceful woods of the Blue Ridge Mountains; and only 150 yards from the Appalachian Trail. Bears Den is comfortable and simple. The lodge is a clean place to sleep, eat, shower, and relax. There is no television or radio. Find solitude on the grounds or meet interesting travelers. Listen to stories from backpackers in off the trail. Bring food to prepare your favorite meal. The kitchen is fully equipped with every piece of cook- and dining ware you'll need. Eat in the stone dining room and then sit in the large living room. Read a book by the fireplace or play games around the coffee table.
