Anchor Bay Campgrounds
My husband and I camp quite a bit and we decided to try Anchor Bay Campground. I called and was told that we would be sleeping on sand and that this was a campground for BOTH tent and RVs. I thought that sleeping on the beach sounded divine so I booked two nights. Right after booking the woman informed me that now she had my credit information I could not change my reservation in any way or I would forfeit the full sum. This made me really uncomfortable since nothing had been mentioned about this previously.
When we got there we found not as much a campground but a fairly run down RV park with very dirty bathrooms. The "campground" for visitors was actually a parking lot with very small and crowded spots. When you check into the office you are greeted with a large sign that reads "No Refunds for Any Reason". The spot we were assigned did not have a fire pit with a grill. After looking (across the parking lot/campground...seriously NO privacy) we found that ours was the only site to not have one. There were only 3 sites besides ours taken at this point. We asked to change to a spot where we could cook our dinner the guy working assigned another spot without any further comment. During the night you can hear absolutely everything your fellow campers are doing. In the morning we decided that we had enough and forfeited the cost of the second night. To add insult to injury a $10.00 charge was added onto the bill since we changed camp sites. I wish that the man working had at least mentioned this. The campground is on a beach and it is a nice one but it does not make up for the underhanded way these people run their business. This part of the coast is an amazing place and you should visit it but please for the sake of your vacation choose any of the other campgrounds in the area.
Positives: It is on a nice beach.
Negatives: The fact that the campground is a parking lot and the owners will gouge for every penny with hidden fees. The bathrooms are very dirty.
